The BSSC enters its second year with a lot of new tournaments and competitions to look forward to!

This year, like the 2017 circuit, will have an Invitational at the end of the year with 12 players who performed extremely well over the course of the circuit. However, the system that decides these 12 players has been changed. In 2017, players obtained Circuit Points (CP) through their performance in the PS tournaments and cartridge ladder, and the points were combined to decide the 12 players who qualified for the Invitational. This year, the qualification from tournaments and cartridge ladder will be done separately, and the top 6 players from each will qualify for the Invitational. This means if a player manages to get into the top 6 of both tournaments and ladder, they will be able to qualify for two spots in the Invitational!:v4:

Tournament Schedule
BSSC Tournaments are now more varied and will no longer overlap with BSPL.
  • Season 8 (Jan 23): Battle Spot Singles Winter Seasonal (Bo3 single elimination, bo5 starting in Top 4)
  • Season 9 (Mar): Battle Spot Singles Ladder Tournament (4x4 weekly flights on the PS ladder for a Top 16 single elimination top cut)
  • Season 10 (May): Battle Spot Singles Classic (Bo3 single elimination GBU/ORAS/USUM)
  • Season 11 (July): Battle Spot Premier League (Team draft tournament. Will not count towards qualifying for the Invitational)
  • Season 12 (September): Battle Spot Singles Fall Seasonal (Bo3 single elimination, bo5 starting in Top 4)
  • November: Battle Spot Singles Invitational (Bo5 single elimination)
Tournament CP Rewards
  • Seasonals and Tour
    • Players will obtain 2CP per round won (activity wins don't count until you win without activity in later rounds), 3CP for finals
    • These three tournaments combined have a best finish limit (BFL) of 2, meaning only the highest two CP rewards will count towards your total. Don't worry about losing your chances to qualify for the Invitational if you underperform in one of these tournaments.
  • Ladder
    • The 16 players who qualify will get 2CP
    • Players will obtain 2CP per round won (activity wins don't count until you win without activity in later rounds), 3CP for finals
Cartridge Ladder CP Rewards
Qualification for the cartridge ladder will be determined using the players' final rating in the PGL Singles rated battle ladder during the 5 seasons.
  • Players are required to submit their ratings in the rating submission thread (thread pending) to earn CP
    • Deadline to report your rating is the end of the following season. I'm sorry to latecomers but I will not retroactively add CP
  • Players obtain CP equivalent to the amount of points above 1700 they have at the end of a season
    • Players that have a rating below 1700 will not receive negative CP
  • Cartridge Ladder CP has a BFL of 3
    • This means only your 3 highest out of the 5 seasons will count towards CP. Don't worry about having a bad season, taking a season off, or joining the circuit late
This new system was introduced to emphasise amazing performances over several decent ones. For example, getting 2000 one season gives the same CP as someone who got 1800 three times. This also gives everyone the opportunity for a comeback at later seasons, which also means people ahead can't let their guard down after a comfortable lead.

Battle Spot Singles Invitational
The top 6 players in tournament CP and top 6 players in cartridge CP will be rewarded with an invite to the Battle Spot Singles 2018 Invitational. As it is a 12-man tournament, the top 2 players of each area will have a round 1 bye. The battles will be best-of-5, single elimination USUM Battle Spot Singles.

In the event that one or more player(s) qualify through both tournaments and cartridge, there will be a bracket change so that they will face themselves as soon as possible. This is to prevent someone from getting a bye in finals.
This is not essential to read; it's just written here beforehand so there's no suspicion of rigging the tournament bracket. Swapping between spots will always be between spots of the same attribute (tournament/cartridge), so every round 1 battle will still be between a tournament qualifier and cartridge qualifier.
  • One player qualifies 4-6th seed on both
    • If the player faces themselves in round 1, no change
    • The lower seed will swap with the opponent of the higher seed, giving the bye
    • If both seeds are the same, the cartridge spot will swap with the opponent of the tournament spot
  • One player qualifies 4-6th in one, 1-2th in other
    • If the player faces themselves in round 2 if they win round 1, no change
    • If they don't the 4-6th spot swaps so that they will face themselves round 2 if they win round 1
  • One player qualifies 1st/2nd on both
    • The 1st and 2nd cartridge spots swap places
  • One player qualifies 1st in one, 2nd in other
    • No change will be made as they will face themselves in semis at latest
  • Two or more players qualify
    • Basically the same as with one player double qualifying, but it will be done in the least number of swaps possible
    • In the event multiple possibilities arise, swapping priority will go to cartridge spots
    • I could go on forever with all the possible ways but lets just leave it at this

If there are ties that cause the tournament to have more than 12 players or 4 round 1 byes, the player with the highest CP in the area (tournament/cartridge) that they did not qualify for will be given the higher seed. If there's still a tie, the players involved in the tie will face off in a round robin (3 or less players) or single elimination (4 or more players) bo3 USUM BSS.

The Battle Spot Singles 2018 Invitational Champion will be awarded a ribbon!

This thread will be updated with news regarding the circuit, so make sure to watch this thread! If you have any questions/suggestions, pm me on Discord or Pokemon Showdown.

Submit your rating on the 3DS Ladder here

Players with over 1700 points on the singles ladder will get cartridge CP that goes towards an invite to the 2018 Invitational. Deadline to submit season 8 ratings for BSSC is May 15 (end of Season 9).

The highest rated player of the season will also be engraved in the hall of fame.

Season 8 rating submissions for BSSC is now closed! Submit your rating for season 9 to obtain circuit points!

Deadline for to submit season 9 ratings for CP will be the end of Season 10. You can still submit season 8 ratings to be recorded, but they will not count for CP.

The "Battle Spot Singles Tour" will be renamed to "Battle Spot Singles Classic"

The name was originally meant to mirror the Smogon Tour format of playing the most recent three BSS formats, but it was confusing to refer to a single tournament as "Tour". Classic is a cooler name and makes more sense anyway. Tournament will start next week!
