Little things you like about Pokémon

Okay but this post made me chuckle because it made me remember how much I used to revere Earthquake So, back when I first played Crystal, I mainlined HARD with my starter Cyndaquil. I had other Pokemon on my team, sure. But Cyndaquil took part in 90% of all battles and was grossly overlevelled...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Counterwise, it's for this exact reason that I write it as L:A not LA

When exactly did the Psychic-type start to fall off in-game?

I'd say Gen II, for the simple reason that in Gen I there's not a single Pokemon with advantageous typing to Psychic which is actually capable of standing up to them. In Gen II Bug and Ghost didn't yet have the massive improvements later generations would give them but there's already a swathe...

Little things you like about Pokémon

I really like what was done with the beast trio and the Celebi for their respective events in Black & White: uniquely, their status screens display different messages before and after activating the cutscenes to reflect their completion. This is a really cool little detail which gives their...

SPOILERS! Mysteries and Conspiracies of Pokemon

So this is perhaps less a mystery and more a "missed opportunity" because it's something I'm fairly confident think next year's L:ZA will bring back in some capacity, but it's truly bizarre how little exposure Pokeball Vivillon has had. It was distributed on a couple of occasions in Gen VI, and...

Little things you like about Pokémon

I mean, it's... just the abiding game logic. No game in the series has ever had all of its native Pokemon available in it (with the obvious exception of single titles like Colosseum, XD, and L:A). Yellow had its own version exclusives, as did Emerald. It's not pleasant but it's been a part of...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

I feel this with Blaziken and Swampert in RSE. The former gets Blaze Kick upon evolving which is a really good move on its own merits, having a high critical-hit ratio but being significantly more powerful than most moves with a high critical-hit ratio like Slash or Poison Tail. The trouble is...

SPOILERS! Mysteries and Conspiracies of Pokemon

Trevenant isn't even properly locked behind trades, which makes things even weirder. It's catchable regularly in XY.

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

Never copy-and-paste, kids, it's a filthy habit and you'll get caught out every time

Little things you like about Pokémon

Big agree. Other good shakeups: Growlithe was made available way earlier, and Headbutt trees were given a slight revamp to make finding the rarer spawns slightly easier. Also: never knew this was a thing! Weird to think that Abra and Magnemite of all things could have been Headbutt encounters...

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

And we're off again - last round's winner has selected our new question. You are a Grass-type specialist in USUM Poni Island. How do you best represent your chosen type? Big moment. We haven't covered Grass yet, for the obvious reason that it's common as hell in nearly every area in the...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Eh. Characters are often given new team picks even in pre-Dexit era. Cynthia got a Braviary and Eelektross in Unova. Anabel used most of her Emerald mons but got a bunch of random new ones in Alola.

Totally agree. What always made it stand out to me is the brief pause before the text prints. "[Pokemon]'s SPCL. DEF went way up!" Truly iconic.

Puh-lease, you're the current thread champion! (not that I'm keeping count of such things)

Results are in and it's a landslide victory - congratulations to Ironmage for winning this round! Will DM you shortly.

    Sticky Orange Islands SQSA Thread

I forget whether its tongue specifically had any special relevance but the Adventures manga made a plot point of Koga's Golbat being smaller than usual and having a weird mouth which he used like a magic mirror. It was a really wacky detail that as far as I know has no basis on Golbat's listed...

    Unpopular opinions

Okay so cosmetic was the wrong word then but the changes I'm referring to are extremely small. Yes Violet added the outside path but the overall gym itself was basically the same, they didn't add a puzzle or any additional features. I don't see how Goldenrod's is "entirely different"? The...

    Unpopular opinions

That's so but most of the gyms (Violet, Goldenrod, Ecruteak, Olivine, Mahogany) got a minor cosmetic overhaul rather than a complete redesign. They could have kept the puzzle the same and just made the boulders bridges activated by switches or something.

Little things you like about Pokémon

Well I mean yeah look at that impeccably neat coat and heels, Cynthia clearly doesn't spend much of her time at dig sites getting grubby and unearthing ancient treasures I'd actually forgotten she's meant to have been on her own Pokedex quest, though (unlike, say, Steven and Lance). I guess...
