Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer - UU Edition

Trying to use a team with the following Magneton set: Magneton @ Choice Specs Ability: Analytic EVs: 120 HP / 252 SAtk / 136 Spd Modest Nature - Flash Cannon - Thunder - Volt Switch - Hidden Power [Grass] However, PS keeps displaying this error message: Your team was rejected for the following...

    The UU Viability Ranking Thread

Could I take an opportunity to big-up Magneton please? This monster is technically the strongest special attacker in the tier if one takes Analytic into account, and although his meh speed and weaknesses to common fighting-, fire-, and ground-type attacks prevent from fulfilling the role of a...

Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer - UU Edition

Okay guys, building a team with SubSeed Shaymin as my main pivot, as I've been testing it out and it has the potential to generate crap tons of momentum, however I'm not sure who would be a good partner (or partners) for it. Is there any poke that can give Shaymin's primary counters (Zapdos...

    The UU Viability Ranking Thread

I wouldn't go quite so far as A-Rank, as the SD + Swift Swim Set is only as devastating as you make out on full rain teams, as Kabutops will usually get KO'd if he attempts to set up both dances, or at least be in LO-suicide range. Fair enough, if rain is up and he can force a switch, he can...

    Under Underused-The unexpected

Just a change to the EV spread on Sceptile: 224 HP / 252 Atk / 32 Def still allows Sceptile to outspeed every single one of UU's scarfers after an unburden boost whilst increasing his ability to take a hit. If you play sceptile smart, he should only need to take the one hit, as after that he can...

Warb: Slowbro makes for a nice partner, as his physical defense compliments Cryogonal's enormous base 135 SDef nicely. Moreover his typing allows him to shrug off the fighting and fire-type (and even steel-type?) attacks that are aimed at his buddy crygonal whilst the absence of entry hazards...

I second the opinion that crygonal is awesome, is it is virtually impossible to spinblock: 252+ SpA Cofagrigus Hidden Power Fighting vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Cryogonal: 78-94 (22.74 - 27.4%) -- possible 5HKO, it has access to instant recovery as well as haze to stop set-up sweepers and its special...

Get Yo Guns Up! (Got me to #61, 1960 ACRE)

Quick question: how does your team deal with DD-Kingdra? Surely it can come in on swampert after swampy's netted a KO and start boosting with ease? I mean, even if you spam EQ, you've only got a 1.9% chance of getting a 2HKO, and it laughs at toxic with its almighty lum berry of awesomeness...

    The UU Viability Ranking Thread

Gonna throw in my two cents on Shaymin (I'm not really bothered if it's S-Rank or not, I just feel it needs some bigging-up). The OP states that S-Rankers should be able to "support other Pokemon with very little opportunity cost" and with Shaymin's decent SpA, above-average speed, awesome...

Gimmicks and their Role in the UU Metagame

The purpose of Shadow Sneak isn't so much to kill full-health pokes as to make up for Shedinja's abysmal base 40 speed and finish off weakened sweepers. Shedinja sucks offensively and should only be used as a momentum-generating pivot that can strengthen team mates. The only time it should...

Gimmicks and their Role in the UU Metagame

I've also tried Shedinja and whilst I agree that it can be extremely effective, I kinda think Moose V's Baton Pass set that he mentioned before is slightly more useful. Shedinja does have six common weaknesses, and so it would very unlikely that it could wall an entire team, but what he CAN do...

Gimmicks and their Role in the UU Metagame

Kitten Milk I'm glad you liked it! Originally this set was used on a Hail-Stall team, where the whole Cosmic Power/Softboiled stall was pretty effective when used in conjunction with passive hail damage and burns. However you raise a good point that there is still some room to change up the...

Gimmicks and their Role in the UU Metagame

Anti-Fighting Clefable Clefable @ Flame Orb Trait: Magic Guard EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef Bold Nature - Cosmic Power - Charge Beam - Softboiled - Trick This Clefable set is designed to lure in opposing fighting types, only to Trick them into receiving a Flame Orb as they switch in, halving...

    Oh Hail No! (Offensive Hail)

Change of plan, just gonna add them in a new post instead. Abomasnow @ Life Orb Trait: Snow Warning EVs: 252 Atk / 44 HP / 212 Spd Adamant Nature - Wood Hammer - Swords Dance - Earthquake - Ice Shard This change was mainly made to maintain my 3:3 ratio of special and physical attackers, as...

    Oh Hail No! (Offensive Hail)

I have enough Ice-type moves on my team that Gligar usually dies pretty quickly, so I'm following PsYch071c's suggestion of replacing HP-Ice with Fake-out, and so far it's worked well. I'm struggling to see why I need Golurk, my team deals pretty well with fighting-types in general, as Rotom-F...

    Oh Hail No! (Offensive Hail)

I found Giga Drain to be just as effective as Lefties in terms of healing up SR damage, and (as I said before) Abomasnow can hit the majority of pokes for super-effective damage and so really appreciates being given an E-Belt.

    Oh Hail No! (Offensive Hail)

I didn't like Specs, simply because so many pokes resist his STABs that once he becomes locked into a move, he is often forced to switch after a single turn. Also, the ability to switch moves is nice on this set as he has so much good coverage. Nice, I'll look into that. Woops, genuine mistake...

    Oh Hail No! (Offensive Hail)

Oh Hail No! So yeah, this is Hail: the only permanent weather in UU and (in my opinion) one of the most under-rated playstyles of the tier. When people think Hail, they think of slow, lumbering Abomasnow/Walrein attempting to stall out the opponent using only Substitute/Protect. THIS...
