Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
The Scyther to Scizor evolution is a bit odd, because Scizor has the same base stat total as Scyther. Why do you think they did this? Why wouldn't they make Scizor's base stat total a little higher? Scizor at least has a better stat distribution and typing overall though. I get Scyther already...
In Gen 3, extrasensory was an odd signature levelup move for Nuzleaf to have. Why does a part Dark type pokemon get a Psychic signature move? It learns no other Psychic damaging moves. And why does it have 30 pp as an 80 base power move?
These possibilities make sense. I thought maybe they would have a Pokemon in mind before making the move. I thought they might have Shellder in mind to use the move, so you think they could possibly have stuck it on Shellder in RS. But who knows forsure. Maybe they wanted another ice type move...
Why in Ruby and Sapphire was Icicle Spear introduced, but was given to no Pokemon? Later in FRLG, Shellder got it by levelup though. Why didn't they just give it to Shellder in RS?
Why in most generations do evolutions have duplicate moves in their level up movesets? In gen 7 for example, Manectric learns Howl at level 1, but also at level 7. Electrike learns it at just level 7. I guess the thinking is evolutions should inherently start out with more moves than their...
Its odd that in Gens 2 & 3, Blissey learns all of its moves at earlier levels than Chansey. Usually it's the reverse, final stage pokemon learn moves later than first stage pokemon. I wonder why the Chansey line was like this. I never noticed it before. Starting in Gen 4 though, it was changed...
I feel like maybe the Golem line gets fire moves because of lava's relation to certain types of rocks.
And maybe the Marowak line gets ice moves because of its broken heart? It's interesting Marowak got fire moves before it got an Alolan fire type variant. Maybe that inspired it.
That's odd. I wonder if the developers were thinking Cubone and Marowak could learn Water Gun & Bubblebeam because they could cry watery tears for their dead mother haha.
Very true. That's actually why I didn't mention Aggron before. Since it can learn a bunch of other special moves, I could understand it learning water pulse a little more. Yeah, odd Aron learns claw moves without really having claws
