Op stolen from the gen8 iterations of the natdex teambuilding comp projects.
Art coming soon. maybe.

Welcome to National Dex OU Teambuilding Competition! In this project, a Pokemon each week will be presented for you to build a team around and then submit. This will then be taken into voting. The winner is the team with the most votes!

Rules:
  1. Entry submission: Post team in the thread itself with import and explanation in hide tags. Please, when you are submitting a team, try not to slash movesets / items in the importable. The finished product should be the build you are most confident in. It is fine to do minor set changes throughout the week, but if you want to give an option for one of your Pokemon, note it in the Explanation instead. Make sure the team you post are according to the Pokémon, Core or Theme of the Week: or else you’ll obviously get disqualified. Joke teams will also be disqualified. If you'd like to submit an idea for a Theme, don't be afraid to PM me through Smogon.
  2. Disputes / Copying: Obviously, there is potential for disputes over copying or people making similar entries. In general, if your team entry has the same cores of Pokémon and similar move sets to an earlier entry, it will be disqualified. If anyone tries to abuse this by reserving an early post in the thread for their entry, please bring it to my attention and they'll be disqualified. If you are caught doing this there is a high possibility you will not be allowed to post in the building stage for an indefinite amount of time.
  3. Discussion and team changes: One part of the process is to have discussion about the teams and the core. While I'd like to keep this from being a speedy RMT thread, suggestions of improvements to entered teams are allowed. In the interests of fairness though, I'd ask that any suggestions don't involve anything more major than move set changes, and that if you've already submitted a team you won't change the Pokémon in it. Basically, just be sure that you're happy with the team before you send it in.
  4. Clean and Tidy: I'd like to keep the thread as clean and uniform as possible, as for ease of browsing, so this means keep formatting consistent, using the provided links for sprites and avoid posting one liners during the submission phase.
  5. Sprites: Please use this sprite option below:
  6. Voting Phase: The voting system used is the Ranked Pairs format. This format is arguably much fairer than the simple voting format and should help keep high stakes for the teams that win. So to vote you basically order your options like this: C>B>A>D, like this A>B=C>D, or like this D>C, assuming there are 4 team options (A, B, C, and D). You cannot vote if you made a team. If you choose not to vote for all teams, the last team(s) will be assumed to be last and valued equally if more than one got left out. If you have any questions about this system, by all means, contact me.
  7. Have fun! :D

GHOLD + LELE BO
:gholdengo::tapu-lele::urshifu-rapid-strike::ferrothorn::garchomp::tornadus-therian:
just a regular bo meant to be simple to use and fun, although the former isn't the case in practise kek. Double taunt is really important, in order to prevent mons like mag from setup freely and snowball you. Chople pwhip ferro ensure you beat shifu (assuming you don't miss), most valiant sets bar tera steel, and tera normal lele allows u to beat 1v1 every pult set.
ghold is scarfed because i believe it's the best set for an offensive team, modest so that u can OHKO offensive tusk w make it rain (it's a 90% roll in ur favor or something).
main gplan is simple, you have 3 breakers to dance around to wear down the opposite team. SD drag chomp is r good rn because of how dominant tusk is, and you don't see that many landos nowadays. it's supposed to be simple to play but tera makes things extremely broken and therefore you need to outplay/use weird stuff if u want to have more appealing teams. You don't have autoloss MUs bar maybe SD/CM steel tera valiant w booster energy and super effective coverage on ghold, so to avoid losing u might just want to play really aggressively, even if that means sacking stuff to avoid valiant using a setup move. Torna outspeed it without the booster energy and bleakwind storm can slow it down so that gives you an out. Defog is optional on torn, I like hp ground for the flexibility and AV for overall better special bulk. Tera Blast is bad on it btw, you want to keep that important coverage without having the need of making it your tera mon. Another harsh mu is skeledirge, you need to be v cautious w it and how you approach it ingame, as you want to avoid the burn on a lot of things. It's solvable ingame but the team is a bit shacky against it.
Nicks are Dragon Quest monsters btw

Dondozo late game sweep
:gholdengo: :ting-lu: :Dondozo: :Lopunny-Mega: :Landorus-Therian: :Toxapex:
https://pokepast.es/1c7e44368a6bc1d9

Gholdengo abuse every hazard removal in existense, sub in their faces, start ploting and then drop powerful unresisted stab combo.
Lop its very intersting, trying to inovate discover this "heat" set. Since recover moves got nerfed, lop can lure it and waste a PP (also disablig them from uturng, tporting, or just encore some set up sweepers) fake out + qattack best revege killer rn. Lu and pex insane setter and defensive core, knock off pex makes hazards letal (hazelees pex cuz the lop set)

If everithing gets wrong, dozo put it together again (notice how dozo its the most unstopable mon in endgames and reserving tera ground for this its just an abuse)

This team have a great MU against a lot of things, lop keeps wheather teams on control, dozo set its slower than a lot of tr mons (except melmetal) but at the same time faster than standard clodsire, a bit weak to grass/ground attackers but not a real threat

Gholdengo + Tapu Bulu BO
Gholdengo and Tapu Bulu is a core I have wanted to build around for a long time, so here it is!
Scarf Gholdengo is here due to how easy it is to cripple or revenge kill a Pokemon with it, such as crippling Magearna, Gastrodon, and Clodsire, or revenge killing unboosted Dragapult and Tapu Lele, and Kingambit is here for our Ghost resist and our secondary revenge killer, aiming to remove Dragapult and Gholdengo more safely, as well as being a very reliable wincon. Tapu Bulu is here for our Ground resist and a counter to Rain, while removing things like Gastrodon and Great Tusk safely to aid Gholdengo and Kingambit, and being able to weaken Earthquake for them as well. We also have our own Great Tusk for Stealth Rock, and we have Headlong Rush to not be crippled by Grassy Terrain weakening Earthquake. Rotom-Wash is our hazard control, and provides us pivoting and a Ground immunity, while Cinderace is here to be an offensive pivot, and also provides nice speed control as well.

this team is probably ass as i really didn't have the time to test it much and i got too distracted by pointless things that aren't mons like "talking to a friend" and "engaging in a rediscovered hobby of coding"... can't believe myself... that being said i don't really see much wrong with the team aside from an iffy but winnable gholdengo mu. so, without further ado...

Nothing that doesn't expect to beat it stays in on Gholdengo. As a result, the only way to properly get TWaves off against offensive Pokémon is to make the opposition believe that they are in a position to beat you. With Colbur Berry, the likes of Weavile, Chien-Pao, Kingambit, Hydreigon, Meowscerada and Mega Gyarados are in prime position to be permanently held back from breaking and/or sweeping your team. This leaves Mega Heracross an opportunity to rip through these mons. Now, some of these mons may suspect scarf and switch, so don't reveal your hand too early. Revealing Scarf on Washtom might be the key you need to get the opponent to think that it's safe to click knock on you, only for the berry to activate and ruin their day. Gholdengo also helps this team deal with KissPower Mage, TWaving and spamming Hex to it's heart's content.

Chomp helps provide hazard support, an electric immunity, punishes contact attackers like Mega Lopunny, Zamazenta, Kingambit, and MSciz for trying to deal damage. Washtom helps provide speed control, a water resistance, a ground immunity, pivoting, and this team's way of dealing with Shifu should it avoid getting TWaved, as well as the ability to cripple defensive mons with Trick. Magearna offers a reliable Chien Pao check should the mon get out of hand, as well as hazard support and another effective pivot. Spdef TTar may seem odd here, but looking at this team, it looks as though nothing on it besides it can properly handle the likes of Pult and Mega Charizard Y, and it helps provide us with a secondary Twaver, punishing switchins trying to take advantage of their typing to come in and force you out, like Urshifu, Mega Lopunny, Iron Valiant, and Kartana. EQ is important for Mega Mawile, who's 4A sets can be tough for this team to deal with if Wisps aren't sent it's way.

Thought process on the team; scarf gholdengo is in, my opinion amazing in this meta, so I decided to build around it. Added the AV kingambit here for a good special tank, plus it lures in stuff like Chien-Pao, Tapu Koko, Mega Latias, Dragapult, Gholdengo, and Regieleki. Then we have Rotom-Wash. added this mon here for the ground immune, and doing what it has done for 5 generations, click wisp then volt switch. Next up is the Tornadus-Therian. Tornadus is here for secondary ground immunity plus defogger, and spamming knock + U-Turn, just doing what torn usually does. Next we have Great Tusk, it's here for a rocker plus another knocker, because why not? Plus it punishes stuff like mega lopunny trying to fake out/frustration/u-turn, because it does that for free on torn, and also punishes Cinderace from just spamming U-Turn on Rotom-Wash, plus sort of gives me an out to Chien-Pao, though its a shit out lol. For my final mon, we have Chien-Pao. this is here because my team needed a dirty breaker so I just added the mon here because its brainless.

Voting ends on Thursday 29th December, 11:59 AM GMT.

Congratulation to Ryuji for winning the first round!

Cycle 2:
:ss/zamazenta:
Formerly an Uber Pokemon, Zamazenta currently sits in UU... Is the ladder right about not using it, or are people underestimating it?

Submissions end on Monday 9th January, 11:59 AM GMT

:zamazenta: :Magearna: :Alomomola: :Corviknight: :Ting-Lu: :Rotom-Wash:

Tera fighting choice band zama is off the shits, crazy that it's in UU. This team tries to make the most of Zama by bringing them in safely with our pivots, healing them with alomomola, and stacking hazards to wear down switch ins. Ting lu and magearna both also really benefit from wish passing, consider running heal bell over pain split on mag. Corv is our defogger because of it's slow u turn to make sure zama can come in without taking a hit. Choice scarf rotom can use trick and shut down so many pokemon that would be a pain otherwise like annihilape, dondozo, garganacl, and magearna.

Edit: Well, mags gone now. Replacing it with spdef ferrothorn.

tera fight zama broken, tera ghost dragapult broken, depends on the mu u tera one of these and click the stab and 2hko the entire tier, pult zama is cool offensively bc pult pressures skeledridge opposing pult physdef fat stuff, and zama pressures darks like king lu mtar and generally everything else. torn mage lando click uturn volt switch bring in breakers -> profit. hswap mage is for opposing setup mage which can be annoying, overall normal defensive core. weavile is a cool and underutilised pick in this meta but it helps sososooso much in the fat mu since u koff everything and clean with ur breakers. spikes on mage is what makes it a value pick, but u can easily make this split mage and play around with the weavile slot. it can be pursuit too > sd to help w pult n stuff. tera water on mage n lando for the best u can do vs rain without a gastro, flame on pult to bop mage for weavile and potentially zama too, no need for pump since u turn on the darks to zama, av on torn for pult and to help with lele stuff, overall solid team, deals well with the main scary stuff like zama rain pult well enough, ban tera

Wanted to go for a quite wild take on zama in sub tect iron press The idea is trying to be a win condition that is able to easily find setup opportunities thanks to its matchup against physical attackers such as Chien-Pao, M-Lop or Great Tusk, while being able to setup on defensive lando and can actually 1v1 para'd defensive tornt pretty easily (as breakwind storm only has 80% accuracy, and you can just subtect against hurricane offensive variants until it misses).
:zamazenta:
Went for max def as you really need all the power you can get. I tried more bulky spread but they all ended up not being very effective in practice. Tera Water is just a good defensive typing, and also allows you to be an absolutely monstruous wincon against rain, which cant do much against it unless they have Zapdos.

:tyranitar-mega:
TTar felt like an automatic addition, as it traps ghosts, zapdos which are able to check this Zamazenta set pretty well. Lando can also force Regieleki to tera ice against it, and then let TTar pursuit trap it. Also gets rocks, and some of its revenge killers give opportunities to Zamazenta to setup, so i thought it would be a good idea to include it.

:tapu fini:
I wanted to have something that could take advantage of Toxapex, which is a huge problem for Zama, and thus went for fini - which could also trap pex if it doesn't expect it somehow. Even if pex switches out, it's still able to make free progress. The spread is to be as sturdy as possible against Chien Pao and rain threats.

:zapdos:
An additional way to punish pex + it stuffs tornt and can punish it for clicking uturn so i thought that was cool as well, on top of being a mzor check. Went for a very offensive spread, as i think offensive zap is quite cool rn and stuff a lot of defensive cores really hard. The idea behind the spread also to get as much value as possible against pex, especially since it might stay in to click toxic/knock/tspikes, meaning dos is not super free against it anyway.

:gholdengo:
Scarf Ghold here is nice as it has a neat typing against magearna so i can pretend not losing to it, is decent speed control and sometimes can be a cleaner (especially since i do not want to overrely on zamazenta to win games). I went for trick nasty plot so it has the ability to be threatening to defensive teams/cores as well, and be a breaker if needed. (Zapdos in particular appreciates Ting-Lu being tricked, which also can be a bit annoying to this team)

:landorus-therian:
Defog, ground immune (offensive zapdos barely count imo), volt immune (forces regieleki to tera into being trapped by MTTar) and mlop temporary check (again, zap is offensive).

I think one of the main problems of the team is that ttar is a shit rocker, bcz i feel like it usually gets more value clicking other moves, and lando a mediocre fogger. TTar sand can be annoying for zama as well sometimes.

I originally tried something with scarf kart to knock tornt and wear it down with rocks, but as i said ttar doesn't feel great as a rocker, and on top of that you will need to manage to get a knock on tornt, which i think is maybe a bit too much to ask for. I also tried tera elec zama which dunks tornt *really* hard, but tera water's mu vs rain is really nice, and you stall out rain + dodge hurricanes from rain tornt anyway.

I literally have no idea if this is good or not since I just started playing the tier today but here it is. Scarf Zama outruns Mpert to shore up rain, Pult and Zama together are apparently good, Iron Treads is a dragon and fairy resist that spins and pivots, Washtom provides some bulk and utility, MDiancie seems pretty dangerous and Gren spikes while luring Ferro and Pex, I'm sure there's something blatant here that I'm missing lol but here it is.

R8 edit: Some of these teams are not usable anymore as Magearna got booted from the tier, however you can still vote for them.

Pretty simple volt-turn offense featuring cb zamah. I chose that seat because its p good at pressuring torn/mage/water type defensive cores. Mdia appreciates zama pressuring steel types and provides spikes support. Rest is p self explainatory. Team is weak to cpao and mag kind of but its ok
Team B: CB Zama BO by CEO_of_Piss

Voting ends on Thursday 12th January, 11:59 AM GMT.

If you have any questions about this system, by all means, contact R8.
