hey! been seeing the RSE contests article up for grabs in the OP for a while now so I figured I'd finally try to claim it now that I have a bit more free time. It'll be something I'm probably going to be working on gradually over the summer if that's okay, but can work on it a bit faster if it's really needed

Since we split up the Mechanics Guide to leave out the Stadium games, mind if I write an article on the changes there? It would likely require the Mechanics Guide as prior reading. Since the Stadium OU Global Championship is over and a VR is soon to come, it feels appropriate to strike while the iron is hot.

This would feature;
  • Some sort of brief history on Stadium, some people don't actually know about the first game that was only released in Japan. It also has some weird mechanics that make it kind of an amalgamation of RBY and Stadium "1". Community members refer to the Japanese one as "Stadium Zero".
  • The changes in mechanics relative to RBY. I think it's easier to do it this way since Stadium is more of a game RBY Community members will likely be the ones playing it, rather than "outsiders", unless they are specifically trying to avoid the "broken" RBY. For the "outsider", this results in the mechanics guide for RBY becoming required reading, but it also drastically reduces the length of the guide.
    • In regards to Stadium Zero mechanics, I may just include it as an "aside" for a historical perspective, since it's not on PS and I doubt people would play what's literally a dexit RBY. This should be kept to a minimum.
  • How the changes in mechanics affect the OU metagame; eg. RestEgg's rise, sleep leads becoming much less common, recoil moves increasing in viability, Substitute's mega-buff, nifty things like Haze Vaporeon, etc.
I wouldn't include any "Tradebacks Stadium OU" in this since I've not even seen RoA Tour Nights run that, and that's saying something. There are definitely a few changes I can imagine taking place, but it's just too "out there" for a guide that's going to be aimed at people that are just dipping their feet.

People I can see assisting with this on the QC front include Lutra, SMB (maybe?), chuva de perereca, and Enigami. I haven't asked them, though. They would mainly help with the metagame perspective.

So a large talking point in the RBY Community is partial trapping. Frankly, many RBYers - even good OU players - don't really understand how the move works in practice. So, I was thinking of writing a guide dedicated to it, and there are many people I can ask for help regarding it.

This would contain;
  • An introduction to partial trapping mechanics, general information, benefits, drawbacks, etc.
  • The options both players have, reviewing the game states it forces
  • Pivoting with partial trapping
  • A dropdown with each partial trapping user with information on how it helps them. This would also serve as a role compendium; maybe it could look like how this was structured? Like how you click Hypno and a mini analysis of sorts comes up.
  • How partial trapping affects Ubers, OU, UU, and NU. Maybe leave out Ubers?
    • Tradebacks can be briefly gone over for AgiliSpin Arcanine.
  • Counterplay
I will likely co-write this with SBPC who's offered to help.

QCers in mind would be Shellnuts, Volk, PacAttacc, phoopes, and maybe Lusch?

So I'm going through some old resources I made for the RBY 2k20 site and was wondering if I could revisit my stuff on Yellow and Japanese Blue legality changes. They're pretty interesting and I think I could possibly merge them into one thing. It'd mainly serve as a historical article, but it does have some competitive relevance in some official formats that are played on Japanese cartridge and Pokemon Stadium. Perhaps it could also be nice for people who want to plan out in-game runs or something as well.

To clarify, this wouldn't be a direct transfer, as I'd have to restructure basically everything to fit the scope of a merged article. I also want to make a section for events rather than merging it into the Yellow content, as it's kind of misleading in and of itself. The info would be the same, but pretty much everything else would have to be structured differently, and there's some additional info I want to add as well.

I know the partial trapping guide is still in WIP but I'm basically just waiting on my co-writer to get back to me with the last few details. I dunno I just get bored and want to write stuff haha

Hello.

I'm a Japanese player who is a specialist in Nintendo Cup 2000(NC2000) of Gen2.
I know the 20-year history of NC2000, was involved in the development of the latest tactics, and wrote and managed the following Wiki.
https://seesaawiki.jp/pbs-thread/

I have an idea to post an NC2000 article on smogon, so please check the idea and tell me the specific steps to realize the idea.

1. background
NC2000 is a format that had never been played seriously in the international community, but it has become seriously played since this year, and a monthly ladder was held in October of this year, and a RoA Spotlight Tournament was also held.
The value of this format is gradually being recognized, and Siatam, who won the RoA Spotlight Tournament, left such a comment.
https://www.smogon.com/forums/threa...ves-won-by-siatam.3691781/page-3#post-9023631
Thank you Sificon for hosting, as well as Shellnuts , Beelzemon2003 , and the Japanese community for creating the resources for this format. This tier is very enjoyable and easy to pick up while still requiring skill and nuance to play. Nintendo Cup is a difficult tier to master and I certainly has some lucky breaks, any one of my opponents could have won this tour.

Hopefully this format can become a staple on Smogon and PS!, the tier is well developed but always has room for innovation and allows for diverse team choices not often seen in GSC OU. Nintendo Cup also has a large following overseas following and regular tour and ladder support would be great to expand Smogon's userbase.
It is also a pleasure for Japanese NC2000 players that international players have played NC2000 seriously.
In the international community, there are systems suitable for the development of metagames (advanced organization of smogon and excellent features of Pokemon Showdown!).
And the international players are very kind, enthusiastic and highly skilled.
This will undoubtedly take the NC2000 metagame to the next step.

However, there is the problem with NC2000.
It is a competitive format in which 20 years of knowledge has been accumulated, but almost all of the knowledge has been accumulated in Japanese.
In order to take the next step in the international community, it is necessary to share knowledge in English.
For that, I want you to lend me the power of smogon.

2. Content of the idea
I would like to post the following text to smogon.

2-1. Format description
The NC2000 format description does not exist on the smogon page.
NC2000 being played in the current international community has a more competitive rule by adding OHKO Clause and Evasion Clause to NC2000 being adopted in the official tournament.
(And much of NC2000's 20-year knowledge has been accumulated on the premise of OHKO Clause)
However, that is not stated on the smogon page, and the organizers of the tournament wrote and published the following documents only in the smogon forums.
https://image01.seesaawiki.jp/p/d/pbs-thread/l8fu1hjVgB.pdf
(This is a document created by Beelzemon 2003. I personally keep it.)

Also, NC2000 has different characteristics from the mainstream format in the international community such as OU, so I think it is necessary to explain in that sense as well.

Therefore, I would like to add a description of NC2000 to the following page.
https://www.smogon.com/dex/gs/formats/

2-2. Competitive article
In NC2000, we play by L50-55 Pokemon.
Therefore, I want to write the another Speed Tier.

In addition, in NC2000 format, there are characteristic restrictions, such as "use L50-55 Pokemon in the team" "After showing each other's 6 Pokemon in the team preview, select 3" "The total level of 3 Pokemon is 155 or less", and a different strategy from the OU that fights with 6 level 100 Pokemon is required, so I would like to write the following article as well.
  • Techniques for fulfilling roles with only 3 Pokemon (prediction of selection, team building method that enables flexible selection)
  • Team leveling techniques (Should we divide into L50 and L55? Should we use L51-53 in a well-balanced manner? And if we should divide into L50 and L55, how many L55 should we prepare?)
I would like to post these articles on the following pages.
https://www.smogon.com/gs/articles/

2-3. Each species analysis
I would like to include a description of the major species in NC2000.
As I wrote in section 2-2, NC2000 has different restrictions from OU, so it is necessary to prepare a new explanation.

I want to put it on the following page.
https://www.smogon.com/dex/gs/formats/

3. things I would like to ask you a favour
If you have any comments about the idea explained in section 2, I would like to hear it.
Also, please tell me the procedure necessary to realize the idea explained in section 2.
(I can write content, but I don't know the specific procedure.)

Talked with Lumari (since this is partially outside the jurisdiction of IGA) and we're fine with proceeding on 2-1 and 2-2, but would like to hold off on 2-3 for now. You can post your threads here and once you're satisfied with what you have, we'll try to get some people to take a look to make sure everything is ok and go from there!

So I was reading the stats guide that NixHex wrote a while back, which aims to satisfy stuff regarding Stat Exp and DVs in RBY/GSC. However, it's a bit outdated, in part due to discoveries made, but also in that a bunch of RBY-centric information is missing despite the article name.

I was wondering if it would be ok to write additional info to add to the article, as it is actually very good on its own and I don't think any of it would be outright replaced. However, it could absolutely be presented better, it's a bit difficult to read as-is. Maybe chuck a few sprites on, maybe improve the headers so everything is clearer, stuff like that.

What I was aiming to add was;
  • Getting minimum Stat Exp in a stat, using Enigami's Exp. All method
  • Box trick applications for accumulating Stat Exp on L100 Pokemon, this applies to RBY and GSC
  • Maybe the fastest Stat Exp training in RBY since it currently only has a reliable option for GSC, that being Ruins of Alph's Unown. Not sure what this is to be honest, but maybe Enigami can point it out, I know they did a bunch of math with Magikarps or something.
  • How DVs work in Gen 1, as they cannot be perfect for numerous Pokemon, and this is very important when playing cartridge.
--

I also noticed this guide had info on soft resetting for Lugia and Ho-Oh's DVs, but maybe something better could be done with that. After all, they're not the only legendary Pokemon by any stretch, and even here, Crystal's aren't considered. I'd be open to writing stuff about stationary encounters in general for all games, so eg. Kanto Birds, Mewtwo, Snorlax, Johto Birds, Celebi, Legendary Beasts, etc. There's a lot of cool stuff there, but the question is whether it's just better off being its own article at that point.

Sounds good to me. Regarding the legends, the current list does seem a bit haphazard. But if you're going to include all of them, it'd prob be better to split that part off into its own thing, like one of our many "Capturing XXXX Legends" guides (eg https://www.smogon.com/ingame/guides/capturing_dp_legendaries)

hiya! could i reserve the poke jobs article?
You can indeed.

Hello! So, something funny has sorta been popping up in BSS analyses, a certain mechanic that has been brought up in several analyses and sets, or even had an impact on movesets: The timer, and how timer stalling impacts stuff. See, gen 8 move animations and even shinyness can have a direct impact on win conditions due to how the timer works.

However, while mentioning stuff on specific analyses such as say, Morning Sun vs Moonlight on Necrozma-DM makes sense, it would get insane to mention stuff like "some teams may want this Pokemon to be shiny" on like a bazillion analyses, especially without context! Like, sure we could mention it on Chansey, but plenty of BSS stall teams have offensive mons too, so it'd start getting silly if we mentioned it on everything!

So what I'm proposing is: I'd like to make a short article about the competitive timer mechanics on cartridge play.

This would cover stuff like the exact amount of time a shiny animation takes up (I have this somewhere, forgot where lol), time comparisons with identical moves (think stuff like Morning Sun vs Moonlight on Necrozma, Roost vs Recover on Levitate Pokemon), and just basic timer mechanics in general such as My Time vs Match Time in SwSh.

At minimum, this would cover the two gen 8 games that have some form of competitive play: SS and BDSP. Obviously, this is coming from a BSS and VGC view of things since I'd be writing it, but I'd like to cover enough so that anyone who plays online on a Switch can be covered!

Also, I can add stuff from SM, Let's Go, XY too, I don't think it'd require a ton of extra effort to figure out the animation times for identical stuff and shiny animations for XYORAS, and for SM it doesn't even matter because it only has My Time (so SM would have a short blurb), and online services for gen 6 and 7 are still up even if there aren't any ladders anymore.

Going below gen 6 is probably not a great idea though, since not only are online services for B2W2 and Battle Revolution long down (I know people have found ways to get back online which is actually easy for gen 5, but that's besides the point), but it'd be pretty hard to test the mechanics for them in this day and age.

Ideally, this wouldn't be that long of an article and the writing shouldn't take too long, as this isn't going to be a really indepth strategy article beyond statements obvious to us like "stall teams like shiny Pokemon". The aim here is to provide some obscure, but important information for players on Switches (and maybe 3DSes if that's OK), and leave it to stuff like onsite analyses to actually get in-depth with concepts like timerstalling.

The majority of the time would probably be sent on testing the times for identical moves in SwSh, BDSP, Let's Go, and XYORAS. I have access to all of these games, and don't mind spending around a week or so testing / writing about every relevant thing.

Only other thing of note is: I guess this might have to be updated for Scarlet and Violet someday, but I wanna get this done ASAP because with VGC being around, it being more relevant in BSS than ever, and some places in the world having to use BDSP for their VGC stuff, this stuff is relevant to cartridge competitive play, but there's pretty much no English resources on it!

Sorry for the delayed response. This sounds fine if you're still interested. Couple quick thoughts on everything you brought up:
  • Agreed, generic is prob better here. Examples are great but no need to break down every mon or anything like that.
  • Focus on BSS/VGC is fine since that's 99% of who cares about this.
  • The further you go back in gens the less it matters. Point here is in-game articles, so anything gen 5 or below is def irrelevant atm. Even more so if the point here is timerstalling and there isn't a timer in play.
but ye, go for it.

edit: if something in older gens is still relevant on PS and you wanna include it cuz of that, Idrm. But focus should be on current imo.

I don't see any in-game guide ideas/reservations for BDSP specifically. I'd love to do one on EV training if that's possible?

Hey, BDSP in general is open, but the problem is that the games are practically identical to their original counterparts. So in this case, Idt it'd be worth reinventing the wheel over the current one for gen 4, since the optimum trainers and encounter slots are identical.

I'm not certain how this will be received, given that it's a strictly aesthetic thing, but could I suggest a Scarlet/Violet hatch location guide for those (like myself) who like hatching their Pokemon in "special" locations and sometimes need ideas? Since shortly after the game came out, I've looked for a list of these in SV, but never found anything. I've compiled a list for my own personal reference that is almost complete and thought maybe others could benefit as well.

As far as onsite goes, this feels a bit niche/restrictive for a guide, since it's essentially a list of in-game locations. We do keep similar lists in Wi-Fi tho and I'm sure there are some people over there who could benefit from it. So if you'd like to post it I can link it around there and credit you.
