[OVERVIEW]
Heatran's key to success in 1v1 is its great Fire / Steel typing, which makes it a premier check for popular Steel- and Fairy-type Pokemon. Flash Fire gives Heatran the upper hand against other Fire-types, most notably Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y. However, its typing does make it weak to popular Water- and Fighting-type Pokemon, such as Mega Gyarados, Manaphy, Terrakion, Mega Heracross, and Mega Lopunny. It also has lackluster offensive stats, so it has trouble against some Pokemon it can't hit super effectively like Hoopa-U and Dragonite. Finally, it's pretty slow compared to the rest of the metagame, leaving it vulnerable to faster threats like Greninja, Garchomp, and Mega Medicham.

[SET]
name: Air Balloon
move 1: Overheat
move 2: Flash Cannon / Endure / Taunt
move 3: Rock Tomb
move 4: Earth Power
item: Air Balloon
ability: Flash Fire
nature: Modest
evs: 224 SpA / 168 SpD / 116 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Description
========
Overheat defeats Steel-types such as Mega Metagross and Mega Mawile. Flash Cannon is specifically for Fairy-type Pokemon like Mega Diancie and Mega Gardevoir. Alternatively, Heatran can run Endure to force Rock Wrecker Crustle and Choice Specs + Hydro Cannon Greninja to recharge, or Taunt, which eases matchups against some bulky Pokemon like Registeel, Mew, Mega Venusaur, and Porygon2. Rock Tomb helps in various matchups, most importantly slowing down Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y, as well as breaking Magnezone's Sturdy without activating Mirror Coat. Earth Power gives Heatran an easier time against opposing Heatran and Mega Charizard X. Air Balloon makes it immune to Ground-type moves such as Earthquake from Donphan and Earth Power from Kyurem-B.

EVs
========
168 Special Defense EVs allow Heatran to survive Modest Mega Charizard Y's Focus Blast and avoid the 2HKO from Timid Choice Specs Greninja's Dark Pulse. Therefore, using Endure turn 1 is safe regardless of which move Greninja uses. 124 Speed EVs allow Heatran to outspeed Charizard after a Rock Tomb.

Strategy & Support
========
You should always use Rock Tomb turn 1 against any Charizard to scout their Mega Evolution. Next, use Earth Power versus Mega Charizard X or Rock Tomb again versus Mega Charizard Y. Note that Heatran is not reliable versus Mega Charizard X, since Counter variants KO back after Rock Tomb and Dragon Dance variants can use Brick Break. You should also use Rock Tomb against Magnezone turn 1 to avoid being OHKOed by Mirror Coat. If you're running Taunt, always use it against Registeel and Mega Venusaur on the first turn. Use Endure against Greninja turn 1, since Dark Pulse won't 2HKO anyway and Hydro Cannon will force a recharge. If Greninja locks into Dark Pulse, OHKO it with Overheat turn 2. Keep using Endure every other turn if it picks Hydro Cannon.

Stall Pokemon such as Mega Sableye and Mega Slowbro are problematic for Heatran, so a stallbreaker such as Mega Gardevoir is a great teammate. Mega Gardevoir also helps it against bulkier offensive Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Mega Heracross, and Choice Band Dragonite. Another great partner is Mega Sableye, as it covers offensive Pokemon that can either outspeed Heatran and OHKO it such as Garchomp, Mega Gyarados, and Terrakion, as well as some that survive its attacks like Hoopa-U. Mega Venusaur also works well with Heatran, as it can also pressure and defeat offensive Pokemon such as Terrakion, Mega Gyarados, Manaphy, and Dragonite thanks to its typing and Charm's Attack reduction.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Choice Scarf Heatran maintains many of Heatran's positive matchups, and it also gains favorable matchups versus Victini and Mew with Dark Pulse, in addition to the likes of Mega Medicham with the extra Speed.

Rocky Helmet + Taunt Heatran defeats Seismic Toss Chansey and Brick Break Mega Charizard X, two fairly common checks to Heatran.

Choice Specs Heatran with Eruption is more reliable against bulky Pokemon, notably Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye, and Nasty Plot Porygon-Z, while keeping a positive matchup against Steel-type Pokemon like Mega Mawile and Genesect. If extra Speed is desired, Overheat and Fire Blast don't require a Quiet nature, but neither is very reliable versus Mega Venusaur.

However, without Air Balloon, Heatran struggles with Ground-type coverage moves from the likes of Mega Charizard X and Mirror Coat users like Magnezone. Therefore, these options can make many matchups more risky.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Super Effective STAB Moves**: Many Water- and Fighting-types such as Mega Gyarados, Manaphy, Mega Medicham, and Mega Heracross can easily OHKO Heatran. Further, most Water-types do not take much damage from its attacks. Some Ground-types like Mega Garchomp and Landorus-T circumvent Heatran's Air Balloon with Rock Tomb + Earthquake, surviving any attack in the meantime.

**Stall Pokemon**: Air Balloon Heatran cannot take on some bulky Pokemon, even if it runs Taunt, such as Mega Sableye, Chansey, and Mega Slowbro. Mega Sableye should be wary of Choice Specs Heatran, and Rocky Helmet + Taunt beats Seismic Toss Chansey.

**Bulky Offensive Pokemon**: Heatran loses to offensive bulky Pokemon, such as Dragonite and Hoopa-U, as they can easily sponge its hits and deal back heavy damage.

- Lackluster offensive stats which puts it in trouble against some Pokemon it can't hit super effectively Hoopa-U, and Dragonite. Plus it also lose to strong fast threats such as Archeops.
- It has low speed leaving it vulnerable to faster threats mainly the aforementioned Mega Heracross.

move 2: Flash Cannon / Endure / Taunt

move 4: Earth Power
item: Air Balloon
ability: Flash Fire

evs: 216 HP / 168 SpA / 124 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

- Overheat is Heatran's go-to strongest Fire-type move allowing it to beat Steel-types such as Mega Metagross, and Mega Mawile and even hits strongly neutrally.
- Flash Cannon is used specifically for Fairy-Type Pokemon notably Diancie, and Mega Gardevoir.
- Endure is good against Specs Hydro Cannon Greninja. Heatran attacks on Recharge turns and endure on greninja's attack turns. very cool!
- Rock Tomb is utilized to capitalize on some matchups most importantly against Charizard, and Magnezone. Rock Tomb allows it to slow down opposing Pokemon after Heatran lives a hit, or to break Sturdies.
- Earth Power allows you to have an easier time against opposing Heatran and capitalize the matchup against Mega Charizard-X and other Fire-types such as Victini, Band victini just wins with Brick break and other Heatran.
- You can also run Taunt which allows you to have an easier time against some bulky Pokemon including Registeel, Mew, Mega Venusaur, and Porygon2.

Set Details
========

- 216 HP allows you to live Charizard-Mega-Y modest Focus Blast LOL What? Surely there has to be a more notable reason to run this HP, and if not I would try and find a better bulk benchmark
- 124 Spe allows you to outspeed max speed Charizard after a Rock Tomb
- Rest in Spa and Modest to maximize damage output
- Flash Fire helps Heatran against FIre-type Pokemon such as Volcarona and Charizard
- Air Balloon allows you to be immune to Ground-type moves such as Earthquake from Garchomp Assuming no Fling, and Golem, Earth Power from Kyurem-Black and Specs Heatran.

Usage Tips
========

- Always use Rock Tomb first turn against any Charizard to scout the mega stone, if X> Earth Power, if Y>rock Tomb again. Also Rock Tomb into Magnezone cause it might mirror coat turn 1.
- Be wary of Overheat accuracy and special attack drop, it's always safer to click flash cannon if you can secure the OHKO in 2 turns such as against Porygon-Z
- If you're running Taunt always Taunt first turn against Registeel and Mega Venusaur. As Registeel with Amesnia + Overheat SpA drop might be tricky and cause Mega Venusaur can replenish health easily if it isn't taunted.

Team Options
========

- Mega Gardevoir is a good partner as it can cover the Water-, and Fighting-type weakness and beat Mega Gyarados, Mega Blastoise, Mega Heracross, it also beats bulky Pokemon that Heatran lose to notably Mega Sableye, and Mega Slowbro. Heatran helps it against prominent Steel-types + Zards
- Mega Sab covers Heatran weakness against Dragon-types, and Fighting-type Pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp, Terrakion and other offensive threats such as Mega Gyarados and Hoopa-U
- Grass-type Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur, Ferrothorn, and Serperior can also be ideal teammates as Heatran covers their Fire-type weaknesses meanwhile they cover Heatran weakness to Water-type Pokemon. Mega Venusaur also have great matchup against popular Fighting-type Pokemon such as Mega Heracross and Terrakion.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

- Choice Specs Heatran with 252 HP 252 Spa with Overheat, Eruption is better, and makes it unique on Specs, also emphasize that Dark Pulse has an amazing chance to beat Slowbro-Mega. Also these ev's are extremely lazy, find something useful and specific with the ev's. Flash Cannon, Earth Power / Dark Pulse, and Ancient Power helps against Bulky Pokemon notably Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye, You need Eruption Nasty Plot Porygon-Z while keeping a positive matchup against Steel-type Pokemon like Mega Mawile, and Genesect. Though, without Air Balloon Heatran struggles against Ground-type coverage moves such as and Earth Power on Kyurem-Black, Earthquake from Golem, and Garchomp, and has iffy matchups against Mirror Coat Magnezone, and Focus Blast Mega Charizard Y.

Also where is Scarf Heatran in OO? Thats a notable set, and mention the fact it has to run Quiet when using Eruption and so forth.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-Type Pokemon**: Most Water-type Pokemon do not take much damage from Heatran attacks and can easily OHKO so Pokemon such s Mega Gyarados, Manaphy, Mega Blastoise are typical counters.

**Fighting-Type Pokemon**: Popular Fighting-type Pokemon outspeed Heatran and can easily OHKO it notably Mega Heracross, Terrakion, and Mega Lopunny.

**Stall Pokemon**: Non-Specs Heatran cannot take on some bulky type Pokemon even if it runs Taunt, so Pokemon like Mega Sableye, Chansey, and Mega Slowbro can easily tank hits from Heatran. Though Mega Sableye should be wary of Specs Heatran.

**Bulky offensive Pokemon**: Heatran also lose to offensive oriented Bulky Pokemon such as Dragonite, and Hoopa-U as they can easily sponge Heatran hits and deal back heavy damage specially if they run a super effective coverage move.

Impliment these and I will look over it again.

[OVERVIEW]

- Great Fire / Steel typing makes Heatran a premier check for popular Pokemon in the metagame such as both Mega Charizard, Mega Mawile, Porygon-Z (you don't beat bulky pz as +2 Hyper Beam OHKOes or you 50/50 with Custap as you need a high roll to beat it with Rock Tomb > Overheat if you really want to add it just specify scarf pz), and Mega Metagross.
- Flash Fire helps it to capitalize its matchup against Fire-types notably Mega Charizard X and Y and Volcarona
- Has Access to the correct combination of moves such as Overheat, Flash Cannon, Rock Tomb, Earth Power, Endure, Taunt, to beat the aforementioned top threats. (personally I would merge these two together instead of making them separate sentences as they both interlink each other)

- However, its typing leaves it weak vulnerable to popular Water- and Fighting-type Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Mega Blastoise, Terrakion, Mega Heracross, and Mega Lopunny.
- Additionally, its lackluster offensive stats which puts it in trouble against some Pokemon which can bulk its attacks it can't hit super effectively like Hoopa-U and Dragonite (add stall Pokemon here like Mega Sableye, Chansey, and Mega Slowbro) as well as strong fast physical attackers such as Archeops.
- It has low speed leaving it vulnerable to faster threats mainly aforementioned Mega Heracross.

Set Description
========

- Overheat is Heatran's go-to strongest Fire-type move allowing it to beat Steel-types such as Mega Metagross, and Mega Mawile and even hits strongly neutrally against Pokemon like Choice Scarf Porygon-Z.
- Flash Cannon is used specifically for Fairy-type Pokemon notably Diancie, and Mega Gardevoir.
- Endure is good against Specs Hydro Cannon Greninja as Heatran attacks on Hydro Cannon's recharge turn and uses Endure to prevent it from being OHKOed.
- Rock Tomb is utilized to capitalize on some matchups most importantly against Charizard, and Magnezone. Rock Tomb allows it to slow down opposing Pokemon after Heatran lives a hit, or to break Sturdy Pokemon like (give examples).
- Earth Power allows you to have an easier time against opposing Heatran and capitalize the matchup against Mega Charizard-X and other Fire-types such as Volcarona, and other Heatran.
- You can also run Taunt which allows you to have an easier time against some bulky Pokemon including Registeel, Mew you lose to Amnesia Mew even with Taunt, Mega Venusaur and Porygon2.
- Flash Fire helps Heatran against Fire-type Pokemon such as Volcarona and Charizard.
- Air Balloon allows you to be immune to Ground-type moves such as Earthquake from Donphan, and Golem, or Earth Power from Kyurem-Black and Choice Specs Heatran.

EVs
========
- 164 SpD you to live Charizard-Mega-Y's Modest Focus Blast and Timid Specs Greninja Dark Pulse.
- 124 Spe allows you to outspeed max speed Charizard after a Rock Tomb
- The rest of the EVs goes in Special Attack and Modest to maximize damage output

Strategy & Support
========
- Always use Rock Tomb first turn against any Charizard to scout the mega stone, if it is Mega Charizard X Rock Tomb into Earth Power, however if it is Mega Charizard Y Rock Tomb twice. Also, you should always Rock Tomb turn one as it might Mirror Coat and OHKO you in return into Magnezone.
- If you're running Taunt, always Taunt first turn against Registeel and Mega Venusaur. As Registeel with Amnesia + Overheat's Special Attack drop makes it unreliable to defeat and Mega Venusaur can replenish health easily with Synthesis if it isn't Taunted.
- Endure vs Greninja turn one since you live two Dark Pulse. If they Hydro Cannon turn 1 attack on the recharge turn and keep on enduring on attack turns, and if they dark pulse you live another one and Overheat.
- Be wary of Garchomp as it runs Fling most of the time and can defeat Heatran even if it runs Air Balloon.
- Stall users such as Mega Sableye and Mega Slowbro causes a problem to Heatran so Pokemon that defeat them such as Mega Gardevoir are great partners. Mega Gardevoir also helps it against bulkier offensive Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Mega Heracross, and Choice Band Dragonite (Choice Scarf is a 50/50 if they are running Iron Head as if they flinch you lose.)
- Another great partner is Mega Sableye as it covers Heatran weakness against offensive Pokemon that can either outspeed Heatran and OHKO it such as Garchomp, Mega Gyarados, and Terrakion or easily bulk a hit and retaliate back with an OHKO such as Hoopa-U and Dragonite. It also synergize well at team preview with Heatran as it covers its weakness against Fighting-Type Pokemon. (fluff)
- Mega Venusaur also works well with Heatran as it can also pressure and defeat Offensive Pokemon such as Terrakion, Mega Gyarados, Manaphy, and Dragonite thanks to its typing in tandem with Charm.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

- Choice Specs Heatran with 184 SpA / 72 SpD / 252 Spe with Eruption, Flash Cannon, Earth Power / Dark Pulse, and Ancient Power helps against Bulky Pokemon notably Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye, Nasty Plot Porygon-Z while keeping a positive matchup against Steel-type Pokemon like Mega Mawile, and Genesect. EVs allow it to live a Focus Blast from Mega Charizard Y zard y and uninvested Kyurem-B's Earth Power. However, without Air Balloon Heatran struggles against Ground-types like Golem, and Garchomp, and has iffy matchups against Mirror Coat Magnezone. It also sacrifices the matchup against Earthquake Mega Meta since it outspeeds Heatran and OHKOes. Plus it's locked into Quiet nature due to Eruption.

If Choice Specs Heatran runs 252 SpA and Speed with a Timid nature and Overheat instead of Eruption, it can nail the win against Mega Metagross though it worsens the matchup against specially defensive Mega Sableye and Mega Venusaur as it is forced to Flash Cannon due to Overheat's Special Attack drop.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-Type Pokemon**: Most Water-type Pokemon do not take much damage from Heatran attacks and can easily OHKO so Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Manaphy, Mega Blastoise are typical counters.

**Fighting-Type Pokemon**: Popular Fighting-type Pokemon outspeed Heatran and can easily OHKO it; notably, Mega Heracross, Terrakion, and Mega Lopunny.

**Stall Pokemon**: (not necessary as specs tran can't beat chansey or mega slowbro, only really necessary against non-Metal Burst variants of Mega Sableye and is iffy against cm variants needs crit to win i'd just say Heatran as a whole) Non-Specs Heatran cannot take on some bulky type Pokemon even if it runs Taunt, so Pokemon like Mega Sableye, Chansey, and Mega Slowbro (add stall Mew) can easily tank hits from Heatran. Though Mega Sableye should be wary of Specs Heatran.

**Bulky offensive Pokemon**: Heatran also lose to offensive-oriented Bulky Pokemon such as Dragonite, and Hoopa-U (I would add Choice Band Victini lives Rock Tomb > Epower and 2HKOes with Brick Break) as they can easily sponge Heatran hits and deal back heavy damage especially if they run a super-effective coverage move.

- Flash Fire helps it to capitalize its matchup against Fire-types notably Charizard-X/Y and Volcarona
- Has access to the correct combination of moves such as Overheat, Flash Cannon, Rock Tomb, Earth Power, Endure, Taunt, to beat the aforementioned top threats.
- Typing leaves it weak to popular Water- and Fighting-type Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Mega Blastoise, Terrakion, Mega Heracross, and Mega Lopunny.

Set Description
========

- Rock Tomb is utilized to capitalize on some matchups most importantly against Charizard, and Magnezone. Rock Tomb allows it to slow down opposing Pokemon after Heatran lives a hit, or to break Sturdies.
- Earth Power allows you to have an easier time against opposing Heatran and capitalize the matchup against Mega Charizard-X and other Fire-types such as other Heatran.
- You can also run Taunt which allows you to have an easier time against some bulky Pokemon including Registeel, Mew, Mega Venusaur, and Porygon2.
- Flash Fire helps Heatran against FIre-type Pokemon such as Volcarona and Charizard
- Air Balloon allows you to be immune to Ground-type moves such as Earthquake from Donphan, Metagross-Mega, or Earth Power from Kyurem-Black and Specs Heatran.

EVs
========
- 164 SpD you to live Charizard-Mega-Y modest Focus Blast and Timid Specs Greninja Dark Pulse - You changed this to be a more ~interesting~ reason to run these EVs, but why am I running 216 HP? Should I be running 224 SpA / 164 SpD / 120 Spe instead?
- 124 0 Spe allows you to outspeed max speed Charizard after a Rock Tomb - Update to match EV change from 124 -> 120
- Rest in of EVs in Spa and Modest to maximize damage output

Strategy & Support
========
- Always use Rock Tomb first turn against any Charizard to scout the mega stone, if X> Earth Power, if Y>rock Tomb again. Also Rock Tomb into Magnezone cause it might mirror coat turn 1.
- If you're running Taunt always Taunt first turn against Registeel and Mega Venusaur. As Registeel with Amesnia + Overheat SpA drop might be tricky and cause Mega Venusaur can replenish health easily if it isn't taunted.
- Endure vs Greninja turn one since you live two Dark Pulse. If they Hydro Cannon turn 1 attack on recharge turn and keep on enduring on attack turns, and if they dark pulse you live another one and Overheat.
- Be wary of Garchomp as it runs Fling most of the time and can defeat Heatran even if it runs Air Balloon
- Stall Pokemon such as Mega Sableye, and Mega Slowbro causes a problem to Heatran so Pokemon that defeat them such as Mega Gardevoir are great partners. Mega Gardevoir also helps it against bulkier offensive Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Mega Heracross, and Choice Band Dragonite.
- Another great partner is Mega Sab covers Heatran weakness against offensive Pokemon that can either outspeed Heatran and OHKO it such as Garchomp, Mega Gyarados, and Terrakion or easily bulk a hit and retaliate back with an OHKO such as Hoopa-U, and Dragonite.
- Mega Venusaur also works well with Heatran as it can also pressure and defeat Offensive Pokemon such as Terrakion, Mega Gyarados, Manaphy, and Dragonite thanks to its typing in tandem with Charm.

Other Options
=============

- Choice Specs Heatran with 184 SpA / 72 SpD / 252 Spewith Eruption, Flash Cannon, Earth Power / Dark Pulse, and Ancient Power helps against Bulky Pokemon notably Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye, Nasty Plot Porygon-Z while keeping a positive matchup against Steel-type Pokemon like Mega Mawile, and Genesect. EVs allow it to live a 252 focus blast from zard y and kyub non invested ep. Though, without Air Balloon Heatran struggles against ground moves , Earthquake from Golem, and Garchomp, and has iffy matchups against Mirror Coat Magnezone, it also sacrifices the matchup against Earthquake Mega Meta since it outspeed heatran and Ko. Plus it's locked into Quiet nature due to Eruption.

If specs heatran runs 252 SpA and Spe with Timid with Overheat instead of Eruption it can nail the win against Mega Metagross though it worsens the matchup against specially defensive Mega Sableye and Mega Venusaur as it is forced to Flash Cannon due to Overheat SpA drop. You can also run Fire Blast instead of Overheat so keep the pressure on Sableye-Mega

Heatran is not perfect, even though its typing grants it a lot of beneits it leaves it weak to popular Water- and Fighting-type Pokemon in the metagame such as Mega Gyarados, Mega Blastoise (blastoise lol, mention manaphy instead), Terrakion, Mega Heracross, and Mega Lopunny. It also has lackluster offensive stats which puts it in trouble against some Pokemon it can't hit super effectively mainly Hoopa-U, and Dragonite. Heatran can run Endure to be able to beat Specs Hydro Cannon Greninja as it attacks on recharge turns and endure on greninja's attack turns. EVs

168 SpD allows Heatran to live a Mega Charizard Y modest Focus Blast and avoid the double space here 2HKO from Timid Specs Greninja Dark Pulse incase you're running endure, 124 Spe allows you to outspeed max speed Mega Charizard after a Rock Tomb, and the rest of the EVs are in Spa. You should always use Rock Tomb first turn against any Charizard to scout the mega stone, If it's Mega Charizard X use Earth Power, if its Mega Charizard Y click Rock Tomb again. As Registeel with Amesnia (amnesia.) + Overheat Special Drop drop might be a tricky matchup, and Mega Venusaur can replenish health easily with Synthesis and Leech Seed if it isn't taunted. Endure against Greninja turn one since you live two Dark Pulse (remove this because u mention it 2hkos later as well) . If they Hydro Cannon turn 1 attack on recharge turn and keep on enduring on attack turns, meanwhile if they Dark Pulse you avoid the 2HKO and can OHKO with Overheat the second turn. Be wary of Garchomp as it runs Fling most of the time (most of the time seems a stretch, just say it can) and can defeat Heatran even if it runs Air Balloon. Stall Pokemon such as Mega Sableye, and Mega Slowbro causes a problem to Heatran so a Pokemon that break stall such as Mega Gardevoir is a great teammate. Mega Gardevoir also helps it against bulkier offensive Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Mega Heracross, and Choice Band Dragonite. Set Description

Overheat defeats Steel-types such as Mega Metagross and Mega Mawile. Flash Cannon is used specifically for Fairy-type Pokemon like Mega Diancie and Mega Gardevoir. Alternatively, Heatran can run Endure to force Rock Wrecker Crustle and Choice Specs + Hydro Cannon Greninja to recharge, or Taunt, which allows you to have an easier time against some bulky Pokemon, including eases matchups against some bulky Pokemon like Registeel, Mew, Mega Venusaur, and Porygon2. Rock Tomb helps in various matchups, most importantly slowing down Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y, and as well as breaking Magnezone's Sturdy without enabling its Mirror Coat. Earth Power allows you to have gives Heatran an easier time against opposing Heatran and Mega Charizard X. Air Balloon allows Heatran to be makes it immune to Ground-type moves such as Earthquake from Donphan or and Earth Power from Kyurem-Black.

EVs
========
168 Special Defense EVs allow Heatran to survive Modest Mega Charizard Y's Focus Blast and avoid the 2HKO from Timid Choice Specs Greninja's Dark Pulse, so that Pulse; therefore, using Endure turn 1 is safe regardless of which move they click. Greninja uses. (I imagine?) 124 Speed EVs allows allow Heatran to outspeed Charizard after a Rock Tomb, and the rest of the EVs are in Special Attack, which is further boosted by the Modest nature.

Strategy & Support
========
You should always use Rock Tomb first turn turn 1 against any Charizard to scout their Mega Evolution. Next, versus Mega Charizard X, use Earth Power and against Mega Charizard Y, use Rock Tomb again. use Earth Power versus Mega Charizard X or Rock Tomb again versus Mega Charizard Y. Note that Heatran is not reliable versus Mega Charizard X because X, since Counter variants KO back after Rock Tomb and Dragon Dance variants can use Brick Break. You should also use Rock Tomb against Magnezone turn 1 to avoid being OHKOed by the OHKO from Mirror Coat. If you're running Taunt, always use it against Registeel and Mega Venusaur on the first turn. Use Endure against Greninja turn one, since you live two Dark Pulses and will force Greninja to recharge if they use Hydro Cannon. 1, since Dark Pulse won't 2HKO anyway and Hydro Cannon will force a recharge. If Greninja is locked into locks into Dark Pulse, OHKO it with Overheat turn 2. Keep using Endure every other turn if they are locked into it picks Hydro Cannon.

Another great partner is Mega Sableye, as it covers Heatran's weakness against offensive Pokemon that can either outspeed Heatran and OHKO it such as Garchomp, Mega Gyarados, and Terrakion and some Pokemon Terrakion, as well as some that survive its attacks like Hoopa-U.

=============
Choice Scarf Heatran maintains many of Heatran's positive matchups, and it also gains favorable matchups versus Victini and Mew with Dark Pulse, and in addition to the likes of Mega Medicham with the extra speed. Speed.

Rocky Helmet + Taunt Heatran defeats Seismic Toss Chansey and Brick Break Mega Charizard X, two fairly common checks to Heatran. (added period)

Choice Specs Heatran with Eruption is more reliable against bulky Pokemon, notably Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye, and Nasty Plot Porygon-Z, while keeping a positive matchup against Steel-type Pokemon like Mega Mawile (RC) and Genesect. If extra Speed is desired, Overheat and Fire Blast are not locked into don't require a Quiet nature, but neither is very reliable versus Mega Venusaur.

However, without Air Balloon, Heatran struggles with Ground-type coverage moves from the likes of Earthquake Mega Charizard X and Mirror Coat users like Magnezone, so each of Magnezone. Therefore, these options can make matchups more risky.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Water-Type Pokemon**: Most Water-type Pokemon do not take much damage from Heatran's attacks and can easily OHKO, so Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Manaphy, and Mega Blastoise are counters.

**Fighting-Type Pokemon**: Popular Fighting-type Pokemon outspeed Heatran and can easily OHKO it, notably Mega Medicham, Mega Heracross, Terrakion, and Mega Lopunny.

**Certain Ground-Types**: Some Ground-types like Mega Garchomp and Landorus-T circumvent Heatran's Air Balloon with Rock Tomb and can survive any of Heatran's attacks.

(I imagine this works? Change things if needed)

**Stall Pokemon**: Non-Choice Specs Air Balloon Heatran cannot take on some bulky type Pokemon, (AC) even if it runs Taunt, so Pokemon like Mega Sableye, Chansey, and Mega Slowbro can easily tank hits from Heatran. such as Mega Sableye, Chansey, and Mega Slowbro. Mega Sableye should be wary of Choice Specs Heatran, and Rocky Helmet + Taunt beats Seismic Toss Chansey. (optional. if you think it's not worth mentioning, you dont have to)

**Bulky Offensive Pokemon**: Heatran also loses to offensively oriented bulky Pokemon, such as Dragonite and Hoopa-U, as they can easily sponge Heatran's its hits and deal back heavy damage.
