Punch Out Versus - a multiplayer Punch Out fighting game where you can play as any of the characters from the series’ history, each with their own set of stats and unique specials.
It would be played with a back-locked, split screen camera, just like the original. This approach to the gameplay camera will allow Punch Out’s uniquely versatile evasive toolkit to shine relative to the feet-centric footsies of traditional side-camera games/dynamic-camera arena fighters, and borrowed mechanics like stamina and special charges (stars) from the original would ensure the game has plenty of depth to master.
While traditional fighters are largely intuitive, with many moves coming out faster than they can be reacted to, the Punch Out fighter would likely play a little slower due to the more committal nature of evasive options>blocking—though safe+unreactable linear jabs would still be in the game and fast visible moves would still have a very tight reaction window to ensure that offence is viable.
Everything else that gives fighting games depth beyond their unique mechanics—frame advantage, armour, grapples, high/mid/low attacks/guards etc.—would obviously still be present, and different moves will deal more stamina damage versus someone who is guarding, increasing the incentive to use slower/more unsafe moves with conditioning.
The single player mode would be the classic Punch Out circuit, featuring different animation sets to better match the gameplay of a traditional Punch Out game.
