[BH] Primal Kyogre [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

Reserving Primal Kyogre
E: Quality Control
QC: 3/3 GP: 2/2
Overview

Primal Kyogre is a versatile sweeper that requires little team support to function, which makes it a prime member of nearly any team. Its excellent Water typing gives it good coverage, key resistances to types like Fire and Water, and only one relevant weakness in Electric. Its high Special Attack and usable Speed allows it to run several powerful offensive sets. Good special bulk gives Primal Kyogre many chances to set up, and Poison Heal lets it reliably beat Imposter Pokemon. However, a vulnerability to Core Enforcer limits the amount of Pokemon it can safely take on. Primal Kyogre is also weak to Galvanize, meaning that it can be revenge killed no matter how many boosts it has accumulated, and it can only fulfill a limited number of roles on a given set, forcing it to choose what answers it. Furthermore, its dominating effect on the BH metagame ensures that answers are present for it on every BH team.

- Quiver Dance
- Leech Seed / Spore
- Ice Beam / Moonblast / Freeze Dry

Set Comments

Moves
Scald is Primal Kyogre's primary STAB option, spreading burns, particularly versus Imposter Pokemon, and hitting most of the metagame for solid damage; it has more PP that Steam Eruption, allowing Primal Kyogre to use it regularly, and is more reliable to spam. Quiver Dance boosts Kyogre's Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, turning it into a fearsome and bulky sweeper. Leech Seed allows Primal Kyogre to better handle Imposter Pokemon and Shedinja, as well as ease setup. Spore may be used to gain setup opportunities without aiding Imposter Pokemon. Ice Beam hits Dragon-types, particularly Mega Rayquaza and Zygarde-C, for super effective damage. Moonblast is a slightly stronger option that does more to most Dragon- and Water-types, particularly Kyurem-, Giratina, and other Primal Kyogre, at the cost of a worse matchup versus Chansey and Desolate Land Primal Groudon. Freeze Dry offers similar, though weaker, coverage but hits Water-types super effectively and allows Primal Kyogre to better handle the mirror matchup.

Set Details

252 EVs are placed in every stat bar Attack, as Primal Kyogre has no other stat it wishes to minimize. A Timid nature is used to maximize Primal Kyogre's Speed and allow it to tie with base 90 Speed Pokemon such as Primal Groudon. Toxic Orb poisons Primal Kyogre and lets it activate Poison Heal, which allows it to passively recover HP and face most Imposter sets one-on-one.

Usage Tips

You should activate Primal Kyogre's Toxic Orb as quickly as possible so it can heal on the turn it switches in and absorb status, particularly sleep, for the team; for this reason, avoid switching Primal Kyogre in until its Toxic Orb has activated, as a surprise Will-O-Wisp or Knock Off can cripple it for the match. Once Primal Kyogre's checks such as Unaware Mega Audino and Solgaleo are removed or worn down, bring it in on something it defeats, such as Kyurem-B or Zygarde, and set up. Be wary of Core Enforcer from Pokemon such as Dialga and Giratina, as the loss of Primal Kyogre's ability causes it to quickly faint to poison damage. If you don't know what the foe is going to do, it's often a good option to click Scald to spread burns and deal solid damage to most switch-ins. This set is vulnerable to Spectral Thief, so avoid setting up if you know the opposing Pokemon carries it.

Team Options

Poison Heal Primal Kyogre is largely self-sufficient and needs little team support to function. However, Kyogre appreciates pivots such Registeel and Celesteela to bring it in safely. Pokemon that can take boosted hits, such as Chansey and Unaware walls, are handy in case an Imposter user defeats Primal Kyogre with critical hits. Wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Mega Rayquaza are also handy to defeat bulky Pokemon that can wall even boosted Primal Kyogre, such as Unaware Mega Audino; physical ones such as Primal Groudon are particularly handy to force out the special walls such as Chansey. Fairy- and Steel-type Pokemon such as Xerneas and Registeel are also useful to switch into Core Enforcer, as Primal Kyogre experiences great issues after its ability is lost.

RegenVest Pivot
Kyogre-Primal @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Core Enforcer
- Scald
- Spectral Thief / Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch / U-turn

Set Comments

Moves

Core Enforcer deactivates the abilities of switch-ins and faster Pokemon, allowing Primal Kyogre to handle Poison Heal Pokemon such as Primal Kyogre, Regigigas, and Giratina. Scald is a reliable STAB option that spreads burns and deals solid damage to most switch-ins, particularly those unbothered by Core Enforcer such as Mega Audino. Spectral Thief steals opposing stat boosts, preventing Pokemon from readily setting up on Primal Kyogre and allowing it to better check boosted setup sweepers. However, should that be handled elsewhere, Rapid Spin may instead be used to clear entry hazards. Volt Switch and U-turn are pivoting options to gain momentum for Primal Kyogre's teammates and to activate Regenerator; the former deals more damage, but the latter has no Pokemon that are immune to it that can block switches.

Set Details

252 EVs are placed in every stat bar Speed to maximize Primal Kyogre's bulk and damage output; Speed is neglected to allow Primal Kyogre to pivot out after the foe moves to gain momentum. Assault Vest is used to allow Primal Kyogre to check powerful special attackers such as Mega Rayquaza, Mega Gengar, and opposing Primal Kyogre more reliably. Regenerator allows Primal Kyogre to heal without wasting moveslots or turns, which lets it reliably check Pokemon throughout the match.

Usage Tips

Freely switch Primal Kyogre into most special attackers, as it can scout for unfavorable coverage and still function if they possess it. Conserve Core Enforcer and Spectral Thief's PP whenever possible, as they are usually needed to check sweepers throughout the match. Scald and pivoting moves are Primal Kyogre's go-to move options, as few Pokemon punish their use; however, be warned that pivoting out of something threatening as it sets up can often force you to sacrifice a Pokemon to bring Primal Kyogre back in safely. Don't be too obvious with the use of Rapid Spin, as while Primal Kyogre can beat most spinblockers it does so much more reliably if it hits them on the switch in.

Team Options

This set pairs well with other pivots such as Dialga, Registeel, and Mega Audino, as they can form VoltTurn cores and wear down the opposing team. Imposter Chansey is also a good partner, as it can provide a reliable target to pivot into and appreciates Primal Kyogre checking Poison Heal Pokemon for it. Checks to physical attackers are also appreciated due to Primal Kyogre's lower Defense stat; examples include Aegislash, Zygarde, and Giratina. Bulky Pokemon such as Solgaleo and Zygarde-C are also handy to use versus Imposter Pokemon, but no special resistances are needed for the role.

Strategy Comments

Other Options

Taunt is a usable option to stop recovery, Haze, and other Poison Heal Kyogre, but it leaves Primal Kyogre vulnerable to Magic Bounce. Water Spout may also be used over Scald for greater power, but the lack of PP and burn chance is also unfortunate. A Fur Coat set may be used to have a solid pivot option, but it is generally worse than simply running a Regenerator set or a different Fur Coat wall. Earth Power is usable over Ice Beam or Moonblast on the Poison Heal set to defeat Water Absorb Steel-type Pokemon and Desolate Land Primal Groudon, but is generally inferior to the listed moves. Knock Off may be used to remove items with the RegenVest set but comes at the cost of a more important move.

Checks and Counters

Water-type Answers: Since they are immune to Kyogre's STAB moves, Water Absorb and Desolate Land Pokemon such as Mega Audino and Primal Groudon can check Primal Kyogre easily. While they can be hit by coverage, they can take the hits and block chances to set up or force out Primal Kyogre with a higher damage output. Pokemon that resist Water such as RegenVest Primal Kyogre and Dialga, meanwhile, can come in and defeat Primal Kyogre with utility moves such as Spectral Thief and Core Enforcer.

Ability Removal: Primal Kyogre is uniformly reliant on its ability, so any means of suppression, from Core Enforcer on Pokemon such as Zygarde to Entrainment Mega Gengar will cripple it. Poison Heal sets will quickly faint to the rapidly accumulating toxic damage and rely heavily on the healing given, while the Regenerator set relies entirely on its healing to function.

Super Effective Attacks: While Primal Kyogre is bulky, it has difficulty taking super effective hits throughout a match. For this reason, Bolt Strike Kyurem-B, Zekrom, and Mega Sceptile all give it major issues with fulfilling its role.

Overview

* Excellent water typing gives it good coverage, several key resistances, and only on relevant weakness.
* Powerful Special Attack and usable allows it to run several offensive sets.
* Good special bulk gives it many chances to set up.
* Can either make itself immune to imposter or nearly impossible to wall.
* Very splashable and needs little team support.
* Is held back from its full potential by low physical bulk.
* Is weak to Galvanize, meaning that it an be revenge KOed no matter how set up it is.
* Can only perform a limited number of its roles with one set.

[Choice Scarf Sweeper]
Kyogre-Primal @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Water Bubble
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Water Spout
- Steam Eruption
- Ice Beam / Earth Power
- Volt Switch / Moongheist Beam

Set Comments

Moves

* Water Spout is the most powerful Water type attack around, capable of 2hkoing even Chansey with the boost from Water Bubble
* Steam Eruption is a backup STAB move that allows Kyogre to cripple switchins with burns and function even when weakened
* Earth Power hits water absorb pokemon such as Primal Groudon, Solgaleo, and Magearna
* Ice Beam is another option that hits Dragon types such as Mega Rayquaza for high damage while still doing decent damage to Primal Groudon.
* Volt Switch pivots out Primal Kyogre, allowing it to scout what switches in and wear down Water Absorbers.
* Moongheist beam is another option to hit Shedinja, as well as Solgaleo if you opted for ice beam above, but its usually better just to switch to an answer.

Set Details

* 252 Speed EVs and a Timid Nature maximizes Primal Kyogre's Speeed. This is further boosted by a choice scarf, which lets it outrun Pheromosa and speed tie with other Choice Scarf or boosted base 90 Speed Pokemon such as Primal Groudon.
* 252 Special Attack EVs increase Primal Kyogres damage output and make it harder to switch into.
* Water Bubble doubles the damage of Water-type moves, turning Primal Kyogre into a powerful attacker.

Usage Tips

* Bring Primal Kyogre in on something that your opponent cannot afford to lose and fire off powerful water attacks onto their team.
* If the opponent has a water-immune Pokemon such as Solgaleo, Volt Switch into a counter to wear them down until they are KOed by your coverage.
* If the opponent has a solid switchin such as Giratina, burn it with Steam Eruption or chip it before attempting to power through with Water Spout.
* Both Water Spout and Steam Eruption have limited PP, so don't attempt to slowly wear walls down a few percent at a time.
* If the opponent has Shedinja, don't attempt to burn it with Steam Eruption; use Volt Switch to pivot to a counter.

Team Options

* Water immunities such as Water Absorb Magearna or Desolate Land Primal Groudon are all but required with this set in order to check imposter. Primal Groudon is generally the best option thanks to its immunity to Volt Switch and overall viability, but if you opt for Earth Power Mega Audino or similar are preferred.
* Slow pivots, such as Mega Audino, Registeel, and Solgaleo, are handy to bring Primal Kyogre in safely on things it beats.
* Entry hazard setters such as Aegislash and Giratina are nice to ease prediction and better wear down switchins
* Bulky pokemon such as Zygarde-C and Registeel are necessary to take priority moves for Primal Kyogre
* Other special attackers such as Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Rayquaza are handy to wear down shared answers.

Modest Nature / Timid Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Core Enforcer / Water Spout
- Earth Power / Moongheist Beam
- Water Shruiken / Quiver Dance / Volt Switch

* Steam Eruption is the obligatory stab move; it is extremely powerful and spreads burns to dissuade switchins
* Core Enforcer is a must-have on Mystic Water sets, as it negates water immunity abilities that try to switch in. This should not be used on Choice Specs sets.
* Water Spout is the most powerful spammable water move and is prefered on Choice Specs sets.
* Earth Power hits slower Water immunities such as Primal Groudon and Magearna if they do not switch in as well as water-immune Fairy-type pokemon such as Water Absorb Mega Audino.
* Moongheist Beam hits Shedinja as well as Solgaleo, but has worse coverage than Earth Power.
* Water Shruiken is a powerful priority move that can pick off weakened foes or frail pokemon such as Deoxys-Speed.
* Quiver Dance allows Mystic Water sets to boost their Special Attack and Speed, turning it into a powerful sweeper.
* Volt Switch allows the Choice Specs set to wear down switchins and hit water types, but leaves it trapped by water-immune Primal Groudon.

Moves

Describe what the moves on the set do.

Set Details

* 252 Speed EVs allow Primal Kyogre to outrun and take out most defensive pokemon.
* 252 Special Attack EVs and a Modest Nature maximize Primal Kyogre's damage output and make it harder to switch into.
* Water Bubble doubles the damage of Water-type moves, turning Primal Kyogre into a powerful attacker.
* Choice Specs increases the damage of Special Attacks by 50%, allowing Primal Kyogre to bypass would-be answers such as Poison Heal Giratina and Water Absorb Solgaleo.
* Mystic Water increases the damage of Water type attacks while easing prediction and allowing Primal Kyogre to defeat Water immunities with Core Enforcer by letting it switch moves, but is much weaker.

Usage Tips

* Offensive Primal Kyogre functions best as a wallbreaker due to it's insane power; bring it in on something slower and break holes
* Whenever possible, clear entry hazards and bring in Primal Kyogre with a slow pivot, because any chip damage impacts the damage output of Water Spout.
* Avoid coverage unless the opponent has a water immunity or a bulky water resist weak to coverage such as Palkia or Giratina, as Water Attacks generally outdamage the coverage even versus resistances.
* If running Quiver Dance, do not reveal it until imposter and switchins are weakened in the late game, as you usually only have one shot to sweep.

Team Options

* A Water-Immune Pokemon not weak to Primal Kyogre's chosen coverage such as Primal Groudon, Water Absorb Mega Audino, or Shedinja is neccesary to take on Imposters.
* Slow pivots such as Registeel can bring Primal Kyogre in without taking any damage.
* Hazard support in Defog, Rapid Spin, and Magic Bounce is crucial to keeping Water Spout at full power.
* Pokemon that deal well with offense, such as Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Rayquaza, are handy to take out faster sweepers.
* Other wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Mega Rayquaza are useful to wear down shared switchins.
* Imposterpoof sweepers such as Mega Gengar that can clean through weakened teams are also handy to take advantages of the holes caused by Primal Kyogre

* Stall- and Wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Mega Rayquaza are handy to defeat bulky Pokemon that can wall even boosted Primal Kyogre.
* Poison Heal Primal Kyogre is largely self sufficient and needs little team support to function; all of these are simply additions to make it even better.

Strategy Comments

Other Options

* Running a more offensive EV spread on Poison Heal gives it more offensive presence more quickly and lets it whittle unaware Pokemon more easily, but comes at the cost of easy setup and revenge KO resistance
* A Sheer Force set with Bolt Strike and Ice Beam can lure most answers to standard Primal Kyogre while still doing solid damage with Steam Eruption, but is somewhat unreliable.
* A Fur Coat set may be used to have a solid pivot option, but it generally worse than simply running an offensive set
* Alternatively, RegenVest allows Primal Kyogre to act as a switchin for special attackers that can hit back, but it even more vulnerable to physical attackers.
* Life Orb is an option on Water Bubble sets for greater damage on coverage and the ability to switch moves, but wears down Primal Kyogre quickly and weakens Water Spout.
* Earth Power is an Option over Ice Beam or Moonblast on the Poison Heal set to defeat Water Absorb Steel-type Pokemon and Water Absorb Primal Groudon, but it generally inferior to the listed moves.

Checks and Counters

Water Immunities: Since they are immune to Kyogre's STAB moves, Water Absorb and Desolate Land Pokemon are usually servable Primal Kyogre checks. Many can be taken out by coverage or repeated Volt Switch pivots, however, and all Non-Fairy-types must beware core enforcer.

Specially Defensive Water Resists: Extremely bulky water resists, such as Assault Vest Dialga, Poison Heal Giratina, and Palkia can take most hits from Primal Kyogre. Most, however, need very little chip to enter range of Choice Specs Water Spout.

Chansey: Chansey has several sets, and all of them mess with Primal Kyogre. Imposter Chansey is one of the few possible switchins to Water Bubble Primal Kyogre, taking a hit and forcing it out. It can also stall out Poison Heal to some extent while fishing for critical hits, and Lucky Punch can ignore boosts outright. Defensive, non-imposter sets serve as some of the best answers to Poison Heal sets and can defeat almost any Primal Kyogre set 1v1. Innards Out, meanwhile, can force a trade with Kyogre.

Galvanize: Galvanize turns Normal-type moves to electric, allowing them to hit Primal Kyogre for super effective damage before it can react. Many sets KO outright, while all can pick off even boosted Primal Kyogre at low HP.

Ability Removal: Primal Kyogre is uniformly reliant on its ability, so any means of suppression, from core enforces to skill swap to gastro acid. Poison Heal sets faint to the rapidly exponential Toxic damage, while versus a very offensive set it removes water bubble and allows things

- Ice Beam / Moonblast

Set Comments

Moves
* Scald is Primal Kyogre's primary STAB option, spreading burns, particularly versus imposters, and hitting most of the metagame for solid damage.
Explain why it's better than Steam Eruption, because it has more pp.
* Quiver Dance boosts Kyogre's Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, turning it into a fearsome and bulky sweeper.
* Leech Seed allows Primal Kyogre to better handle Imposter Pokémon and Shedinja, as well as easing setup.
* Kings Shield blocks priority, allowing Primal Kyogre to sweep unimpeded, and allows it to set up on or take out even more physical attackers.
* Ice Beam hits Dragon types, particularly Mega Rayquaza for super effective damage as well as hitting the rare Grass-type Pokemon.
* Moonblast is a slightly stronger option that does more to most Dragon-type Pokémon and water-types, particularly Kyurem-Black and other Primal Kyogre, at the cost of a worse matchup versus Chansey and Water Absorb Primal Groudon.

Set Details

* 252 HP EVs in conjunction with 240 Defense EVs and a Bold Nature greatly increases Primal Kyogre's bulk and allows it to set up on many pokemon.
* 16 Speed EVs allow Primal Kyogre to outspeed Deoxys-Attack at +2
* Poison Heal lets Primal Kyogre passively recover HP while Poisoned, allowing it to 1v1 most imposter sets.
* Toxic Orb Poisons Primal Kyogre and lets it activate Poison Heal.

Usage Tips

* If possible, attempt to bluff Water Bubble and gain a second turn to set up on their Imposter switch.
How? The only way to do this is to lead with it, or bring it in after a teammate has fainted, as a bulky pivot will immediately activate Toxic Orb. Also, I'm not sure why an impostor would switch in on a Poison Heal set as it knows it's impostorproof. Unless you mean bring it in when an impostor kills a teammate so they have to switch out? I suppose that some people might fish for critical hits with their Lucky Punch Chansey, but I just don't see it ever happen.
* However, you should activate Primal Kyogre's Toxic Orb as quickly as feasable so it can heal on the turn it switches in and absorb status, particularly Sleep, for the team.
Switch this and the previous bullet point, as it's more important to get the orb activated. That's the first thing players should be looking to do with their Kyogre. Forcing a switch is just a cool bonus.
* Once Primal Kyogre checks such as Unaware Mega Audino and Water Absorb Solgaleo are removed or worn down, bring it in on something it defeats such as Mega Gyarados and set up.
* If you don't know what the foe is going to do, it's often a good option to click Scald to spread Burns and deal solid damage to most switchins.
Mention that opponents can take advantage of the passivity of King's Shield once it's revealed.

Team Options

* Kyogre appreciates pivots such Registeel and Celesteela to bring it in safely.
* Pokemon that can take boosted hits, such as Chansey and Unaware walls, are handy in case a sufficiently lucky imposter defeats Primal Kyogre.
* Stall- and Wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Mega Rayquaza are handy to defeat bulky Pokemon that can wall even boosted Primal Kyogre.
Physical attacking wallbreakers probably should be mentioned here as well, since they can force switches that are beneficial to kyogre.

* A Fur Coat set may be used to have a solid pivot option, but it generally worse than simply running an offensive set
I'm not sure why you would run Fur Coat on this mon. It seems totally unviable in the metagame, at least to me.
Oh, You mentioned it here.
* Earth Power is an Option over Ice Beam or Moonblast on the Poison Heal set to defeat Water Absorb Steel-type Pokemon and Water Absorb Primal Groudon, but it generally inferior to the listed moves.

Mention some of these, like P-don.

I suppose it can try to PP stall scald, but Leech Seed plus the thread of scald burns is enough of a deterrent to most Chansey users.
Galvanize: Galvanize turns Normal-type moves to electric, allowing them to hit Primal Kyogre for super effective damage before it can react. Many sets KO outright, while all can pick off even boosted Primal Kyogre at low HP.
Many sets, like what?
Ability Removal: Primal Kyogre is uniformly reliant on its ability, so any means of suppression, from core enforces to skill swap to gastro acid. Poison Heal sets faint to the rapidly exponential Toxic damage, while versus a very offensive set it removes water bubble and allows things

Overview
  • Can you say the actual types
  • It's not immune to imposter
  • The last line of this doesn't really make sense. Which set are you referring to? Can you clarify somehow?
Scarf
  • Most of this set seems really good.
  • In Usage Tips, the first line is not great. I'd say some specific things it can come in against, e.g. the common Steel-type walls, as long as they don't have Water Absorb.
  • Gotta specify that Solgaleo is Water Absorb for that next line to make sense.
  • I feel like, since so much random stuff is running Water Absorb, there should be a line here about using Volt Switch to scout for weird counters and then whittling them down with the rest of your team.
  • In Team Options, note that entry hazards are especially helpful against RegenVest users
  • The last special attackers line is too vague, get rid of it
All-out Attacker
  • This isn't an all-out attacker imo, it has QD
  • Maybe put a mention of Tail Glow in moves, especially in combination with Water Shuriken? It doesn't need a slash.
  • Earth Power doesn't hit Mega Audino very hard at all, so I'm not sure why you picked that
  • Say things that can use Defog, Rapid Spin, and Magic Bounce in Team Options
  • Can you describe some of the "shared switch-ins"? I honestly can't think of too many besides Water Absorb Steel-types
  • You kind of imply this, but I'd point out that Imposter-proof sweepers are good because Water Bubble is inherently vulnerable to Imposter
Defensive Poison Heal
  • Usage Tips needs a line about not blindly switching in so as to avoid Knock Off
  • In Team Options, mention that Lucky Punch Chansey also presents a problem in the line about Unaware
  • Can you identify the walls that are forced out by mega ray or pdon?
  • The second part of the last line is unnecessary. I'd move the line about it being largely self-sufficient to the beginning.
Other Options
  • Provide an example of an offensive spread and mention what it outspeeds. 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216+ Spe to outspeed Pheromosa and speed creep opposing 295 speed things at +1 while maintaining odd HP, maybe? If not that then just MMY.
  • Sheer Force sounds way too gimmicky, in my opinion. Never heard of it until now, either.
Checks and Counters
  • Gotta mention AV Regen Mega Gyarados in the second bullet point. That's one of the most common counters.
  • Maybe say some things that would make use of the ability removal? Like Core Enforcer from Dialga, Entrainment from Magic Bounce users

Overview

Primal Kyogre's excellent Water typing gives it good coverage, key resistances to types such as Fire and Water, and only one relevant weakness in Electric. Good special bulk gives Primal Kyogre many chances to set up, while Poison Heal lets Primal Kyogre reliably beat imposters. Primal Kyogre it very splashable and needs little team support, but a vulnerability to Core Enforcer limits what it can safely take on. Primal Kyogre is also weak to Galvanize, meaning that it can be revenge killed no matter how set up it is, and it can only fulfill a limited number of roles on a given set, forcing it to choose what answers it. Leech Seed allows Primal Kyogre to better handle Imposter Pokemon and Shedinja, as well as easing setup. Spore may be used to gain setup opportunities without aiding imposter. Ice Beam hits Dragon-types, particularly Mega Rayquaza, for super effective damage. Moonblast is a slightly stronger option that does more to most Dragon-type Pokemon and Water-types, particularly Kyurem-Black, Giratina, and other Primal Kyogre, at the cost of a worse matchup versus Chansey and Water Absorb Primal Groudon. Taunt is a usable option to stop recovery, Haze, and other Poison Heal Kyogres, but leaves this set vulnerable to Magic Bounce.

Set Details

252 EVs are placed in every stat bar attack, as Primal Kyogre has no other stat it wishes to minimize. A Timid Nature is used to Maximise Primal Kyogre's speed and allow it to tie base 90 Speed Pokemon such as Primal Groudon. Toxic Orb Poisons Primal Kyogre and lets it activate Poison Heal, which lets Primal Kyogre passively recover HP and allows it to 1v1 most imposter sets.

Usage Tips

You should activate Primal Kyogre's Toxic Orb as quickly as feasible so it can heal on the turn it switches in and absorb status, particularly Sleep, for the team; for this reason avoid switching Primal Kyogre in until its Toxic Orb has activated, as a surprise Will-o-Wisp or Knock Off can cripple it for the match. Once Primal Kyogre checks such as Unaware Mega Audino and Water Absorb Magearna are removed or worn down, bring it in on something it defeats such as Mega Gyarados or Zygarde and set up. Be wary of Core Enforcer from Pokemon such as Dialga and Giratina, as the loss of its ability causes Primal Kyogre to quickly faint to Toxic damage. If you don't know what the foe is going to do, it's often a good option to click Scald to spread burns and deal solid damage to most switch-ins. This set is vulnerable to Spectral Thief, so avoid setting up if you know the opposing Pokemon carries that.

Team Options

Poison Heal Primal Kyogre is largely self-sufficient and needs little team support to function. However, Kyogre appreciates pivots such Registeel and Celesteela to bring it in safely. Pokemon that can take boosted hits, such as Chansey and Unaware walls, are handy in case a sufficiently lucky imposter or a Lucky Punch Chansey defeats Primal Kyogre with critical hits. Wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Mega Rayquaza are also handy to defeat bulky Pokemon that can wall even boosted Primal Kyogre such as Unaware or Water Absorb Mega Audino; physical ones such as Primal Groudon are particularly handy to force out the special walls such as Chansey.

Other Options

A Fur Coat set may be used to have a solid pivot option, but it generally worse than simply running an offensive set as Primal Kyogre is one of the most powerful Pokemon in the metagame. Alternatively, RegenVest allows Primal Kyogre to act as a switch-in for special attackers that can hit back, but it even more vulnerable to physical attackers. Earth Power usable over Ice Beam or Moonblast on the Poison Heal set to defeat Water Absorb Steel-type Pokemon and Water Absorb Primal Groudon, but it generally inferior to the listed moves.

Unlike Kyu-W, My analysis requires massive cuts. I think the poison Heal set should be suitable with the changes I've made, though. On thing I'd like to know is if RegenVest is considered main set worthy; I've been using it to great success, but it's distinctly worse than the PH variant.

You can hear from other QC too, but I'd be inclined to give it a set. Seems significantly better atm.

Ya give it a set, it's a good set. Just include spectral thief or core enforcer on it (or both).

Spectral Theif Thief steals opposing stat boosts, preventing Pokemon from readily setting up on Primal Kyogre, (RC) and allows allowing it to better check boosted setup sweepers. Should that be handled elsewhere, however, Rapid Spin may instead be used to clear entry hazards. Volt Switch and Rapid Spin are pivoting options to gain momentum for Pimal Primal Kyogre's teammates and to activate Regenerator; Volt Switch the former deals more damage, but U-turn the latter has no immunities Pokemon that are immune to it that block switches.

Set Details
252 EVs are placed in every stat bar Speed to maximize Primal Kyogre's bulk and damage output; Speed is neglected to allow Primal Kyogre to pivot out after the foe moves to gain momentum. An Assault Vest is used to allow Primal Kyogre to check powerful special attackers such as Mega Rayquaza, Mega Gengar, and opposing Primal Kyogre more reliably. Regenerator allows Primal Kyogre to heal without wasting moves or turns, which lets it reliably check Pokemon throughout the match.

Usage Tips
Freely switch Primal Kyogre into most special attackers, as it can scout for unfavorable coverage and still function if they possess it. Conserve Core Enforcer and Spectral Thief's PP whenever possible, as they are usually needed to check sweepers throughout the match. Scald and pivoting moves are Primal Kyogre's go-to move options, as few things Pokemon punish their use; be warned, however, that pivoting out of something threatening as it sets up can often force you to sacrifice a Pokemon to bring Primal Kyogre back in safely. Don't be too obvious with the use of Rapid Spin, as while Primal Kyogre can beat most spinblcockers spinblockers, (AC) it does so much more reliably if it hits them on the switch in.

Team Options
This set pairs well with other pivots such as Dialga, Registeel, and Mega Audino pair well with this set, as they can form VoltTurn cores and wear down the opposing team. Imposter Chansey is also a good partner pairs well with this set, as it can provide a reliable target to pivot into and appreciates Primal Kyogre checking Poison Heal Pokemon for it. Checks to physical attackers, such as Giratina, Zygarde, and Aegislash, are also appreciated due to Primal Kyogre's lower Defense stat; examples include Giratina, Zygarde, and Aegislash. Bulky Pokemon such as Solgaleo and Zygarde-C are also handy to use versus Imposter Pokemon imposters, but no special resistances are needed for the role.

Strategy Comments

Other Options

Taunt is a usable option to stop recovery, Haze, and other Poison Heal Kyogre Kyogres, but this leaves Primal Kyogre vulnerable to Magic Bounce. Water Spout may also be used over Scald for greater power, but the lack of PP and burn chance is also unfortunate. A Fur Coat set may be used to have a solid pivot option, but it is generally worse than simply running a Regenerator set or a different Fur Coat wall. Be wary of Core Enforcer from Pokemon such as Dialga and Giratina, as the loss of Primal Kyogre's ability causes it to quickly faint to Toxic poison damage. If you don't know what the foe is going to do, it's often a good option to click Scald to spread burns and deal solid damage to most switch-ins. This set is vulnerable to Spectral Thief, so avoid setting up if you know the opposing Pokemon carries that it.

Should However, should that be handled elsewhere, however, Rapid Spin may instead be used to clear entry hazards. Volt Switch and U-Turn U-turn are pivoting options to gain momentum for Primal Kyogre's teammates and to activate Regenerator; the former deals more damage, but the latter has no Pokemon that are immune to it that can block switches.

Regenerator allows Primal Kyogre to heal without wasting moves moveslots or turns, which lets it reliably check Pokemon throughout the match.

Usage Tips
Freely switch Primal Kyogre into most special attackers, as it can scout for unfavorable coverage and still function if they possess it. Conserve Core Enforcer and Spectral Thief's pp PP whenever possible, as they are usually needed to check sweepers throughout the match. Scald and pivoting moves are Primal Kyogre's go-to move options, as few Pokemon punish their use; be warned, however, however, be warned that pivoting out of something threatening as it sets up can often force you to sacrifice a Pokemon to bring Primal Kyogre back in safely. Don't be too obvious with the use of rapid Rapid Spin, as while Primal Kyogre can beat most spinblockers it does so much more reliably if it hits them on the switch in.

Water-type Answers(remove space): Since they are immune to Kyogre's STAB moves, Water Absorb and Desolate Land Pokemon such as Mega Audino and Primal Groudon can check Primal Kyogre easily. While they can be hit by coverage, they can take the hits and block chances to set up or force out Primal Kyogre with a higher damage output. Water-type resistances Pokemon that resist Water such as RegenVest Primal Kyogre and Dialga, meanwhile, can come in and defeat Primal Kyogre with utility moves such as Spectral Thief and Core Enforcer.

Ability Removal: Primal Kyogre is uniformly reliant on its ability, so any means of suppression, from Core Enforcer on Pokemon such as Zygarde to Entrainment Mega Gengar will cripple it. Poison Heal sets will quickly faint to the rapidly accumulating Toxic toxic damage and rely heavily on the healing given, while the Regenerator set relies entirely on its healing to function.

Super Effective Attacks: While Primal Kyogre is bulky, it has difficulty taking super effective hits throughout a match. For this reason, Bolt Strike Kyurem-B, Zekrom, and Mega Sceptile all give it major issues with fulfilling its role.

GP 1/2 good work!
